Lol, I hope u don’t think I was trolling you or anyone for that matter. I thought this was a discussion of when you believe they will redesign and put out the next generation of Tacoma’s. I just guessed 2025. I wouldn’t even bet a dollar on it honestly. If that makes me “look funny” well then, so be it! ✌

OK so to be more realistic...2024 Tacoma on the F1 platform. Engine options 2.4 Turbo/2.4 Turbo Hybrid Setup? Am I close? V6 going away? Please tell me that the manual Trans will be available

I wasn't trying to reply to you, it was the other dude.
Not 100%, but hold off on the V6. Still learning in the area of power trains for sure, as that right there is much more sensitive than simple timelines. I don't know about 2GR demise and because of the nature of my own work, there is so much I can ask a Toyota TTCAA engineer off the record on such topics, which is competitive knowledge. As for manual transmission? I've heard both good and bad, which is why I won't comment on it. It's not concrete enough (so I'll zip it), because I honestly haven't really asked out of cordiality and to not come across as nosy.

The under 5% take rate and shifting to an all-new basis, yeah I really wouldn't count on it. These 3Gs are end of the line on that front in my opinion, but I can be wrong, as I am totally uncertain on that one this far out.

Huh? Doesn't make sense in the least and I do not comprehend the context, because it has nothing to do with my commentary. Toyota set an 8-stage plan 10 years ago upon commencement of development of the 989A program (2016 Tacoma) and have only fallen behind moderately (which they accounted for with a liberal window of 6-8 year cycle).

2005 Tacoma was 100% new, while 2016 model was not for deliberate reasons and I have already explained that enough times. I won't again, because anyone else will understand my context if they refer to what I said elsewhere previously.

After 2022 minor updates (not major, similar to MY 2018 level), it's redesign time. This truck was always intended to be redesigned any time between September 2021 and January 2024, per a 6 to 8 year lifecycle, internally agreed upon IN 2010. Just because you may not have been previously aware of that, doesn't make what I stated inaccurate. This is absolute fact LOL.

And for anyone else curious to what I meant in terms of 8-stage plan from 2010 to present:

    1. Redesign Tacoma for 2016 Model Year (Inaugurated 2011, solidified 2013, and completed 2014)
      1. Launched September 10, 2015
      • 2016_Toyota_Tacoma_TRDOR_05_1D17C37D01FD0B2B5313CE502A730391E720E567.jpg
    2. Staggered launch of TRD Pro, October 2016 (significant compared to other sp. editions)
      • toyota_tacoma_trd_pro_double_cab_28.jpg
    3. Case study of expanding and shifting Tacoma production from TMMTX to new additional Mexico plant in Guanajuato (2016).
    4. Maintain Life-Cycle: Minor Update to Tacoma for MY 2018
      1. Launched October 2017
      • 2018_Toyota_Tacoma_02_B19305D8270EB7E30111005E572DD79794C0C794.jpg
    5. MMC to Tacoma for MY 2020 (Mid-Life Enhancement)
      1. Launched September 2019
      • 2020_Tacoma_TRD_Off_Road_01_50A9E609C6722DED1EB517DDEAC1D10E71825716.jpg
      1. Start of TMMGT production in Mexico (December 2019)
    6. Maintain Life-Cycle: Minor update to Tacoma for MY 2022 (deviates from OG 2010 plan)
      1. Completion of shift TMMTX production to TMMGT
    7. Start of planning on 4th generation vehicle (Inaugurated late 2017, solidified early 2021, and engineering in progress)
    8. End of N300 Production and Start of N400 Production, MY2024. (deviates from OG 2010 plan)
Bear in mind that I definitely have been in touch with a former product planner for the 2016 Tacoma (among a few others) and he already spelled out everything, dating back a whole decade ago. I know what I am addressing pretty definitively and current sales are irrelevant. No one said they were "done" with the Tacoma, but gotta keep moving forward and stay relevant.

Remember the Ford Ranger introduced in 1982, but wasn't ever fully redesigned since 1992 (significant changes in 1997 added etc) till its demise in 2011?

Tacoma dethroned that for 2005, due to excellent R&D & benchmarking, essentially making the Tacoma the equivalent of a Lexus, compared to what the competition was putting out in 2004. When I saw the new '03 4Runner then in 2002, I knew Toyota had something serious coming for the next Tacoma.

And this photo was the best version of Ranger back then (cool, but not up to par). Toyota was better in every way and is why so many of you came back for more, but it will not hold permanently and steps are already being taken internally to protect against that, even if some of you refuse to believe it. It's called Product Life Cycle Management.

2023 Ranger will more than fix many issues with the current P375N Ranger and 2022 Frontier will grab some sales too. Toyota is a very smartly run organization and know their limits, unlike the average joe assuming otherwise. Tacoma is doing fine now, but 3 years from now is a very different story, when all the competition will be fully renewed.

Good info! Thanks. Can’t wait for the Gen 4’s to appear so us Gen 3 owners can go on the Gen 4 forum and crap on it (or not, just saying).

I thought someone in the know posted that Toyota has been working on the new Tacoma for a while now. It will be out as a 2024 model year.

Coming from Volkswagen the amount of info that Toyota teases is practically a state guarded secret. VW constantly released design, engine and transmission specs through vwvortex or their reporters.

tacomaworld does not have reporters as fas as I know?
