As the title says, I broke the tool trying to lower my spare tire... It worked fine last week when I put it up there.

Any ideas on a replacement tool that's a bit stronger?

That’s pretty crazy!! Did it break while securing the spare after using it? Or when you were lowering it? I’d hit the local metal supply and get some round stock heat it up bend it and quench it. If your in a pinch you could always weld the end back on

I was trying to lower it back down. Might have gotten tighter since I put it up when it was colder.

Yeah, I might have to hit up a metal shop I guess... This isn't a fun day, lol.

Mount your spare in the bed.

If they have a access to a hydraulic break you could get some stainless rod and bend it in that and you won’t have to worry about corrosion but it’s going to be kinda long to keep in the truck

I haven't been in over a month! This pandemic is making me grow a beer belly, so I don't think I'm too strong for that.

Unfortunately I have a diamondback and a bed rack, so no dice there.
That's what I said, didn't realize it was that stuck.
I mean, I have six foot of storage in the bed...
true, but that diamondback cover though...

Now you have a good reason to buy a swing out bumper.

True, but that doesn't solve the immediate problem of how I get my spare tire out...

I took an old socket and welded a piece of an Allen Wrench on top along with a nut to keep it inside the keyway. I can hook up my 1/2" drive and buzz it up and down quickly versus that crank handle.

I'm going to need a to buy a 1/2-in extension with that as well, hopefully that doesn't snap from the impact

Thank you sir, lol. Hopefully I can get a solution within tomorrow. I got that wool wax section on Saturday, and it won't be good if the tire is still up there.

That makes me think, maybe I can let out all the air in the tire, and lower it that way? Still need a tool to do it though.
