Sorry if it’s been discussed but is the alignment exception still in effect for recon? I heard as long as you get the alignment in 2020 and have proof then recon will allow it?

I got mine last Wed, the alignment sheet needs to be within a year now, not 30 days. Takes a bit to get the appt, it's like 4 weeks out at least now.

Just got alignment. Considering getting recon. Do they pop the hood? Not gonna pass if have battery strapped down with ratchet strap instead of factory tie down?

Yes. They ask you to open the hood and to step away while they inspect. They look all over and under. Make it look good, they might not notice.

Like many have said... It all depends on the inspector. When I went there a few years ago, the lady asked me to pop the hood but didn’t even look or check for anything. Didn’t measure the tint either. Quick 5 min walk around and that was it.
If it wasn’t such a pain, I would say just chance it. But it might be a better idea to play it save and not be sorry.

Thanks for the advice guys. If I go I’ll put the stock battery and tie down back in just in case

Thats how it is, its only 4 weeks out and everyday they extend it out. I think it refreshes at 11 or 12 each day. U gotta grab it when avail or get lucky when someone cancels. Keep trying, u will get 1.

If I'm reading the bill text correctly, its only 3.5 years and doesn't start till Jan 2022. So, I'm assuming that until the end of this year, anyone currently needing recon or safety renewal still needs to go through the recon process or maintain recon requirements for safety renewal (whichever applies)?

Edit: my safety is up this month, so I am going into the garage assuming that my recon paperwork will be checked this time around. I'll report back what they tell me...

Can confirm. Just finished annual safety today, and my recon paperwork was indeed checked for accuracy and compliance. The guy was pretty busy, so I was unable to get any info on what happens after 1 Jan 2022 for those of us with current recon stickers/paperwork.

I believe it should? (But I wouldn't bring it to their attention) Depending on who checks your vehicle? They may or may Not have a good understanding of what the oversized cab mount is intended for.
The larger cab mount is a NHTSA item that improves the Tacoma's "safety rating". (Not a requirement, Not all cars/trucks have them) This just improves their "rating" for insurance purposes.
The Cab mount protects the driver and passenger from "side frontal impact" and reduces the likelihood of the front tire ending up in your face.
Does NOT actually affect the vehicles performance, or reduce it's ability to be "safely" operated/function on the road. (Not All cars/trucks have them) Not a reject-able criteria for recon.

Is Recon by Appointment Only? Or is it first come first served starting at 12 pm? Website states 12 - 4PM
Also do I need to wait until I get my plates? I only have the dealers paper plates.

Are the Safety Check and Recon separate for a modified vehicle?

I just arrived to Oahu with my lifted Tacoma. If I go for a Safety inspection, will I get a sticker or be told that I need to go through recon? Or can I get a Safetly sticker and work on Recon separately?

    Mahalo!
