Hi, I'd be grateful if someone could help me with that. I'm running a measured 2.25" lift up front coming from my Bilstein 5100 set at 2.5" but the bumper and winch lower it back to 2.25".

I run wheels that are 16x8-0 offset that I'd like to keep using.

I have no care about trimming and cutting plastics but I don't want to modify the frame and do a cab mount chop. Mud flaps are long gone already.

I'd like to use 295/75R16 Toyo At/2. In 295 they have the "xtrem" tread model that I like much better than the 285 that is the "regular" LT tread pattern that is less interesting.

Can I get away with it without the CMC or there is a kind of drivability issue without it? It's not often that I flex very much the suspension, it's more a work truck for remote places. Thanks a lot for your help.

    Impossible.

Cab mount chop is an easy mod and no one will ever know if it’s done right. It’s the only way you’ll fit 295’s.

Thanks for your reply. I thought the 16x8 with 0 offset would be more permissive. I might stick with 285/75 then.

Yeah I'm sure I could do the CMC nicely but I don't want to mess with the frame. There is a lot of salt in winter here and most of the frame will end replaced with the extended Toyota warranty. Anything they can find to reject the claim they will do so that is mostly my reason.

Are you currently using 285’s without a CMC?

I'm on 265/75 right now, this is a picture of the closest my tire will come from the cab mount even with some compression on the suspension. I measure 1 1/4" of room left before rubbing. My 265 with 1 1/4" more radius would actually give a 34" diameter tire (only mathematically speaking). Problem is, that calculation doesn't take the width in consideration.

As I said I guess the 8" with 0 offset wheels make a noticeable difference, that's why I was so tempted by the 295.

Yeah, I did the same kinda of measurements and had room like that too. I’d recommend being cautious when purchasing tires. Ask the shop if they’ll do a test fit first.

Yeah that's a good point. Most of them don't like it though. I understand the benefit of the CMC but I also I expect that many folks do it prior to try their setup... who knows how many of them could have keep it stock. Thanks for your help by the way.

What is the general consensus for spindle gussets on 295s? The tires I’m looking at are about 10lbs more per corner than my current tires. Just wondering if anyone has had an issues.

I emailed Total Chaos about this and the rep said a 295/75r16 would clear their gussets on a 16x8 4.5bs wheel setup. I’m still on 285’s for now, so I cannot test that yet. And I imagine different wheel specs would give you the possibility for different results.

Thanks! Yeah, I have 4.5 BS as well. I was just wondering moreso if they were recommended from a strength perspective.

Well, I’m under the impression that the sole purpose of adding gussets to any structure is to reinforce it. This, increasing the strength(structural integrity) of that particular area.

Yeah of course! Not quite what I’m asking though.

I’m simply asking if anyone has had any stock spindle failures with this tire size. That being said, I’ll probably end up doing them anyways for peace of mind.

I used to run 285/75/16 a while back. Before the 295’s I currently have on the truck I was running 305/75/16’s. Never had an issue. Having said that, I don’t wheel my truck that hard and only take it on dirt/gravel roads and a little snow up in the Sierras these days. I would think that if you’re pushing your truck, it’s probably a good idea to reinforce your spindles and whatever else you can. Peace of mind is worth it imo

Thanks, yeah that’s what I was thinking as well. I’m kind of in the same camp, I don’t wheel hard trails all that often, but I’m a bit of a believer in Murphy’s law haha
