Plugs changed out. All of them pretty much looked like this at 67,000. Coil packs were prestine. Was able to do it all without removing any brackets or other sensors. Took about 2 hours. The universal joint 5/8 spark plug extension was key. Thanks to everyone for the input found here.

I am curious if anyone is indexing the spark plugs when replacing or not worrying about it.
I'm not close yet but would like to hear if indexing appears to be necessary on the 3rd Gen V6.

I'm of the opinion that the only people who should be indexing plugs are professional racing teams.

Just wanted to put this here for other noobs like myself debating doing this themselves or having it done. I had it done at a local mechanic they charged $412.68 OTD. $74.70 parts, $337.98 Labor.

I know y'all are prob gonna bash me for paying that but I've never done plugs before this is my only ride and I need it for work, if I made a mistake it'd cost me the price to repair my mistake plus a couple days of a rental truck plus the stress so just spare me lol trying to help

Nope. You don't know life until you've tore out the threads on a aluminum cylinder head. There is nobody to blame except the dog, and the phucker mowing the grass 78ft away. One day, in the middle of the night, with 3 beers and the radio loud, you will try it, and succeed. You did well by paying the price. Your day will come. Good luck, we're all counting on you. LOL

If memory serves me the 1st Gen Tacoma 3.4 V6 had 3 coil on plugs and 3 spark plug wires, was a little odd.

Very helpful thread, between this and a youtube video got the job done in a few hours mainly without incident. My notes:
    - This was not my idea; can't remember where I heard it? Step-1 Jack up the truck, remove wheels and lower it down on the lowest possible jack stand setting you can. Makes it easer than doing tippy toes or fumbling on a stool

    - The bottom 14mm bolts on the two drivers side brackets... I struggled to break them free; figured out accessing them thru the wheel well with a flex coupling and a bunch of extensions was the ticket

    - The biggest PITA was trying to gently pop off all the various clips and fittings without breaking them. And the sharp edges of surrounding brackets, clips etc.

    - I probably lug this engine more than I should (Doing ~90% city driving since the RONA). I usually use Costco 10% ethanol or Liberty 100% gas. Injection cleaner every 3-4 months.

    - These looked a little more "Ashy" than I expected, but not much carbon really. Runs better now. What do you all think?

I did mine today at 58k miles to finish my 60k service.

Anyone else looking to do the plugs, eh, I'd say wait. Mine at 58K looked fine and it honestly probably was not worth the expense of the plugs, or my time. Effortwise, it's pretty low. Honestly, other than Toyota's fascination with weird ass clips that refuse to pop apart, it is pretty easy.

No difference in how it runs, before vs. after.

I told myself I'd probably wait till about 160k before I did them again. If I still have it at that point.

Interesting post....Just bought a used 2017 manual trans off road with 38K. Definitely pull the plugs just too get a look.
The oil separator thats a must do! I pulled the intake off my 1st gen at 235K the intake runner gunk
was thick and fuzzy..Took about an hour with a long handle bottle brush and gasoline to get them to sparkle.

I’m long ways to get to
60k miles, maybe another couple years.

You used OEM plugs for replacement?

hello, Just want To know How many miles did you First replace Your spark plug? Do we really need To follow the manufacturer’s advice(60k miles)? Because I read some people Said that if Your Truck is running good, no problem at All, you dont need To replace it.
