Nothing yet, I added a K&N filter and that helped some too. I really don't think this problem is a transmission deal. It is misfiring or pre ignition knock.

Just off the lot with my new 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport. On the 200 mile ride home this transmission drove me nuts. It feels like the engine is jerking as it continually shifted up and down while riding on the interstate. Toyota is going to have to find a way to fix whatever issue is causing this problem. Is there a way to contact Toyota directly?

Just bought a new 2019 off-road. At around 1k miles I began noticing a slight jerking when the truck is cruising in higher gear. Mostly around 45-55 in town. At first I thought maybe it’s the road, but it’s becoming more apparent that it is the trucks gearing or transmission. I traded in a 2001 tacoma with 180k mikes on it and it drove like a champ. Now I have this new expensive truck that gets shit gas mileage and shudders when I’m in high gear. I wish I still had my old tacoma. Taking back to the dealer to address this issue. I waited 18 years to buy a piece of shit. Oh and don’t even get me started on the cruise control. This vehicle literally cant decide what gear it wants to be in. Down shift at the slightest need for acceleration at bottom of the hill, then when at the top of the hill and headed down, it simply won’t switch back into overdrive. At least not always. My old tacoma with 190 hp reacted better to hilly freeways than this new 2019 with 278 hp. How the hell does that happen? Toyota Tacoma was once a name that made you think quality, longevity, and style. Now, just like all the other brands, it seems they are going to shit. It’s so disappointing to have such a beautiful ride that doesn’t run well. I feel your pain.

I have similar issues with my 2019. It is most noticeable on the highway going up slight inclines or into headwinds - The transmission seems to hunt up and down. It will shift down two gears then back up two gears, then down two gears, then back up. Very irritating when I am just trying to stay with the traffic flow. I either need to bury my foot to keep it into the lower gears or back off below the speed of the traffic flow. It becomes more noticeable when towing a light 900lb boat trailer. The ECU/transmisison reflash does not include the 21019 trucks. I believe this hunting can be a definite traffic hazard not always being able to stay with the traffic flow. I wish had found a manual transmission instead of this auto.
My old 2002 Dodge Diesel that I gave my grandson weighs 2500 pounds more, gets better 4mpg better fuel mileage then than Taco V6, never had this problem. I think the 265/70R17 tires are too much for this Tacoma, so now I looking for some 16x7 rims to run some smaller tires (closer to 245/70R16s).

My 2019 TRD Sport is having a similar issue with the transmission no engaging properly. Usually happens when i'm at a stop light and go to accelerate. The engine rev's up to 2k RPM before it catches and takes off. It happens intermittently and its driving me nuts!

Hello I just bought a 2020 TRD Sport. I have 1500 miles on it and it does the same thing. Great looking truck but I don't get how Toyota can release this POS and think their customers will think it's OK!
I had mine at the stealership today for that reason and the 55 MPH shake. My first Toyota and I am regretting it. I want to like this truck but Toyota has other ideas. No offence to you fine folks, this is just stupid!!

Any updates from anyone on this? Have a 2020 SR5 that’s about 6 months old and it just started doing the shudder/misfire type feeling thing… it’s most noticeable at highway speeds when just trying to maintain a constant speed. It’s scenarios where the truck should just be smooth, but instead you feel a random back and forth kind of herky jerky motion. Almost like the engine is catching or something. It’s sometimes subtle if you’re not paying attention, could be confused for road vibration, but whereas road vibration is more of an up and down motion, this is a more forward and back motion. Other times (randomly) it’s suddenly way more noticeable and will really jerk back and forth. But mostly it’s just constantly a subtle random forward back kind of hiccup. Like someone is lightly kicking or pushing on the seat randomly (but it’s the whole truck, it’s not just felt in the seat… just an analogy though… really struggle with how to explain it).

I’ve noticed it at various speeds actually… occasionally even while idling it’ll randomly hiccup and kind of do it… but it’s most noticeable, most common at highway speeds.

I tired to explain it as best I could at the dealership. They said they struggled to reproduce it, and then told me they’d fixed it by replacing the rear drum breaks, that the rear drums were misshapen and that it was a known issue. Sure enough though, replacing the rear drums had nothing to do with it and it still does it just the same. On the receipt the tech listed something about ‘replacing the rear drum brakes lessened the shudder when braking,’ which wasn’t the issue so I’m not sure what that was about.

Currently trying to get it back in to get it looked at much closer, maybe see if I can drive with the tech to really try to make sure they can feel it.

I’m surprised to see this was an issue even in 2019. Hopefully by now there’s a fix.

Did anyone ever figure this out? If so, thank you in advance!! Any help would be so incredible! This has been driving me crazy.

Thanks gearcruncher! Your post you linked to had some great information. I'm anxious to look into that more to see if it's a possible fix.

Your Lubeguard Platinum comment got me searching, and also found Lubeguard's Instant Shudder Fixx. From all the videos/posts it seems like it works wonders for torque converter shudder.

    Thanks again!

I'd be curious to know if anyone else has had success w/ their gen 3 tacoma, using Lubeguard Platinum or Lubeguard Instant Shudder Fixx, to fix the shudder issue.

You guys with newer trucks shouldnt be seeing converter shudders yet . Usually these complaints pop up when your fluid gets older and all the reagents get depleted . The fluid cant handle the friction because all the reagents get baked out of your factory fluid .
If you have warranty , I highly suggest using it to make some complaints to Toyota corporate

Sad to say but many guys are happy with the aftermarket OV tune .
Strange how the aftermarket knows exactly whats going on but when you bring it to the dealership for diagnosis , they say its " Normal "

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Techs & Service Managers are either lazy or know that REAL troubleshooting doesn't make money for the shop.
It took a tech at my dealership over 12 hours to pinpoint why some minor fuses were tripping and the battery was getting totally drained.
It finally got traced back to a recently replaced A/C magnetic clutch (new) that shorted out. I credit that tech with persistence (thankfully).
