I just spent an ass ton of money ordering parts, most of which won't be here till June or July (best case scenario) and the install will take even longer. Last weekends trail run convinced the wife and I that the investment is worth the fun... or something.

    Wait...wait...what?
    Why?
I don't mean to be a jerk but why?
So many hours, so much time. For what?
Assuming you are parking your truck at the mall?
    Not doing any offroading?
    I'm seriously curious.

What's the difference between the KDmax tune and the OVtune? Or can someone point me to a place where that's already been explored? Thx!

    Ha!

Yep, lots of malls where I go camp and ice fish. I probably off-road more than most of the taco owners on here. Some people like their stuff to look nice, clearly you are not one of them.

It’s a black truck, it needs to be maintained to look good. This is a permanent coating now which only needs about an hour of maintenance every 6 months and the paint will look like glass. You should research ceramic coatings before you post stuff like this.

Awesome just ordered them. Any tips to make the application process easier? Or did it come with some instructions?

I know the power tailgate lock in plug and play, but did you have to splice wires to get the LED bed lights? I'm thinking of doing both of these mods as well after adding a tonneau cover.

Looks great. Did you go with bumper shellz/caps or replace the entire insert?

I think p0verty is in Cali. It may be a while before he answers. I have an SR5 and the bed lights I installed were plug and play. No splicing.

I don’t recall it coming with instructions but I YouTubed it allot and I tried the wet method and the vinyl moved to much I just got wheels super clean didn’t use alcohol just soap and water and so I just did it dry it’s very time consuming but I did each wheel in 30 to 40 minutes

I agree it does seem like a waste of money. I did 2 year ceramic coating on a 2013 Mustang GT that was garage kept and I only took out on weekends when the sun was out to car shows and just to show off around town. It was black, and the maintenance was constant. I can see someone doing it only for the paint protection properties to extend the life of the paint but that is it. The ceramic coating on an offroad vehicle will be chewed up pretty quickly with the dirt, etc. BUT... For someone that really enjoys the time, care, and dedication to their vehicle; this could be something that works great for them. This is one of them, "To each their own" scenarios. Personally, I'd MAYBE try it once. Perhaps a 6 month coating and use all the specialty items/cleaners to maintain it and prolong the life of the coating. BUT... the price, cost, and time investment... I think I just talked myself out of it, nevermind. I wouldn't do it. :)

Me either. I'd rather "paint protect" this way.

Nope. The led bed lights was the easiest thing I have EVER done on a vehicle.

Two bolts to take out the tail lights and the pigtail is just sitting behind the light waiting to be plugged in. It is absolutely baffling to me that the truck came with literally EVERYTHING for the lights but the actual $50 bulb assemblies.

Whatever. It wasn’t difficult at all!

I wish I knew the answer for you but the thread was like 35 pages long and I lost track.

I think for the 2017 and prior it was “mostly” plug-and-play but I can’t be sure.

Why are you guys trying to dunk on a guy that prefers to next level detail his truck?

It's not your time, it's not your money and it's not your truck.

    I disagree sir.

You gotta layer the ceramic coating, 1 coat does nothing. Also, always have to follow with the topshield. That combo actually protects from pinstripes. Remember, the stuff I got you cannot buy online. The only reason I got it, is my coworker used to be a professional detailer and I bought some stuff from him. The ceramics you buy online are just okay at best.

I’ve been through some pretty tight spots and only have a few pinstripes on the sides. It really works if done right.
