DoorDash Confidential with Charlie (another PennSilverTaco thread)!

The Jade Island Chinese & Japanese Restaurant in Warrington has officially been shitlisted after this order; This place is consistently swamped and has wait times well over ten minutes, and even though the payouts are generally high the wait just isn’t worth it. On top of that, this is one of those restaurants that not only does not let the public use its restrooms but won’t let anybody in at all; All translations are conducted one person at a time in the entry vestibule. The food was supposed to be picked up by 5:43pm and as I type this it is now 5:47; The food is supposed to be delivered by 6:14 and I’ve got another order to pick up...

Got the most insultingly low offer ever today; It started with an order from a place called Sushi X on County Line Road in Hatboro, which I thought was one order for $10.80. That is not bad for a single order, but when I pulled up in front of the restaurant and confirmed my arrival, it showed up as two orders! Two orders for $10.80 total?!?! That means both orders were less than $6, and I no longer accept orders less than $7! I was going to cancel both orders, but I quickly figured out that one of them was for a respectable $8.00 while the other was a paltry $2.80! That's right! Less than three bucks!




Obviously, I cancelled the $2.80 order and followed through with the $8 one...

For those of you just tuning in, anything less than five bucks when there isn't a peak pay bonus means that the customer is not tipping; As stated above, I never accept an order unless it's at least $7. $2.80 is seriously the lowest order I've EVER seen since I've ever seen, at least since COVID started; From what I've heard, the base pay goes up every time a Dasher declines the order, so I'm hoping it went up to at least $5 before someone else accepted it ($5 used to be the bare minimum I'd accept). I'm also hoping that the customer learned their lesson; If you want your food to arrive (A) in a timely manner and (B) warm, then tip your Dasher!

And then I showed up at an Arby's in Plymouth Meeting; It was almost a repeat of the incident at the Taco Bell in Warminster, but I kept my cool this time...

The Arby's was dead, and I parked my truck and went inside; The front door was unlocked and I saw absolutely no sign saying not to come in (sound familiar?). As soon I walked in, this employee (a teenage girl) was saying "You have to use the drive thru." I told her the door was unlocked, and she basically said she didn't care (though she wasn't a jerk like the old guy at the Taco Bell). I said something like "but I'm with DoorDash" and got no sympathy. I wanted to say "I just parked and walked all the way to the door, and now I'm in here, so you can either give me the food or I can cancel the order and leave." Instead of actually saying that, I just left; The teenage girl came out after me as I walking back to the truck and said "there's a sign saying use the drive-thru on the front door". At this point, I was done and just walked the rest of the way to the truck without a word.

My argument always been and always will be that if these assholes don't want the public coming into their establishments, they should lock the door!

 

Why didnt she just give you the order?

 

Exactly. Nothing makes sense since this damn pandemic started!

This is the Taco Bell in Lansdale (Not the one in Warminster that I’m supposedly “banned for life” from); They are courteous enough to lock their doors so there’s no mistake that they’re drive-thru only, but I still refuse to come here after this...

 

This is just insulting!

 

Been getting a lot of these lately; There is this movement on a private DoorDash forum that encourages Dashers to decline any order with a payout of less than $7, and that’s what I’ve been doing. However, before that I was doing just fine with my personal $5 mandatory minimum so this week I think I’m gonna go back to that and see how it goes.

 

The other day (I believe it might have been yesterday), I got an order from a sushi place on Easton Road in Warrington; While I was picking up that order, another order came in from Nourish by Mama (part of Empanada Mama) in Doylestown and it was for only TWO DOLLARS! I immediately declined it...



The guy at the sushi place overheard the little ding-ding of the app on my phone, and asked me if I had another order; I told him I did, but that I turned it down because it was only two bucks...

We had a good laugh about that!

 

That same day, I went to the same Five Guys where I had the encounter with the dickhead in the red Camry last week, and I had much better experience; A customer was sitting out from with his dog, a 3-legged Pit Bull named Diamond!

 

Some really insulting payouts that I declined during the week...

 

I declined a ton of orders with low payouts this morning, and ended up with what I thought was a $10.50 single order from a restaurant in Hatboro; I arrived there and realized it was two separate orders (one for $5.00 and one for $5.50)! I had already spoken to to an employee, but I used the bathroom and ended up slipping out after unassigning the order.

 

On another note, I am DONE with non-food retail orders, especially Michael’s and PetSmart; Why?

Mediocre base pay with no tips and far driving distances!

My parents have never had any type of groceries delivered to the house; They do curbside pickup. At this point in the pandemic, I think it is safe to go into a store! There is being cautious and then there is just being lazy...

Also, if you want me to deliver a few paintbrushes from the Michael’s in Warrington to your house in Newtown, then you better pay me more than $8.50!

 

Skies started getting pretty threatening during yesterday evening’s DoorDash run...

So today, I went DoorDashing for the first time in almost a week (due to being sick Wednesday night through Saturday night), and it sucked; I got four orders and only ended up taking one, for a total of $7.25...



That order was from some Mexican place in North Wales, and it went to an apartment building just outside my delivery zone, so I had to drive a few miles to get back inside my delivery zone; Again...

 

I got two orders from the Lansdale Popeye’s, one for I believe $5.75 and another for a measly and downright insulting $3.50; I declined them both...

 

I was getting ready to pack it it in for the evening when an order came in from the PetSmart there in North Wales; Normally I will not take PetSmart orders because they expect me to deliver sometimes large items long distances for too little money, and they NEVER tip!

This one was different, however; This was one for $18.00! I checked to make sure it was in fact one order going to one person, and it was...



Specifically, it was three items going to one person, and it was also just four tenths of a mile from my location; I was ecstatic! At least I was ecstatic until I got there, looked closer, and realized it was one of those orders where I had to shop for the items myself and pay for them using the provided Red Card...



These are the very same types of jobs from CVS and Walgreen’s that seem to have started during the pandemic, and that I have always turned down since I started doing this again back in January (after nearly a year of hiatus). The ones from the pharmacies are generally over $10 and can sometimes approach $15; However, this is DoorDash, the premise of which is to pick up food at Point A and deliver it to Point B. During the pandemic, I can understand curbside pickup, but how lazy do you have to be that you have to underpay a third party to pick up your large aquarium?!?!

Like with Walmart and Edible Arrangements, a lot of these customers seem to have no idea that PetSmart is outsourcing to DoorDash and don’t tip; Not getting a tip is the best case scenario!
