To err is human, but to really screw something up takes a computer.
I love when someone says "just put it in the cloud." Like that's some magical place where you never have to worry about your data.

Management who think that cloud is a great solution also cleaned their room by stuffing everything under their bed and called it good.

Or networking, patching, firewalls, load balancers, etc ..

Shit that's how I clean my room.

My wife (also in IT) is always annoyed how I can be good at my job and OCD about configurations but my desk and room are a disaster :D

A team of computer science researchers has uncovered a line of attack that breaks all Spectre defenses, meaning that billions of computers and other devices across the globe are just as vulnerable today as they were when Spectre was first announced.

I need to go buy an actual lottery ticket after hitting the Newegg Shuffle!

Not the 3070 I really wanted, but it'll do. Hold onto the RAM for something else or sell it off.

I wish. Gettin’ 3 different operating systems to talk to each other let alone integrate is a full time Ordeal. I rather council marriage breakups. :frusty:

I am a network engineer so it can *sometimes* be fun to chase down an issue and pass some time. But sometimes it's very not fun.

But it IS Friday so I'll settle for a boring/quiet one :D

My son is level II. He is learning that things don’t break on a schedule - it either all works (and they’re bored to tears) or it’s all going to hell at the same time.

These new ISC2 CBTs are harder and better than the ones available on the work training site.

    Go figure.

30 CPEs to go. I need to stop procrastinating.

    Tomorrow.

If you're just looking for the CPEs for CPE sake, the ISC2 magazine quizzes are an easy way to knock out CPEs.

Yeah, I do those too. Just getting my mind in the right place so I can go "okay, let's read a year's worth of Information Security Magazine today!"

I now know the root cause of workplace violence.

My computer just installed a pile of updates from 0730 - 0815 because it needs manual approval to reboot (failing SSD). Since the updates finished it's been a $1,000 paperweight not even good for being an anchor.

Ready to start a killing spree using this POS as the weapon, but I'm certain it would fail at that too...

I particularly love the uninterruptible reboot in the middle of an important meeting.

I'm having to use Teams on my work cell while my PC reboots continuously. Thank God the building is empty because of COVID - I've launched into several 120+ decibel "salty" tirades.
