I have a batshit weirdo living 5 doors down from me. Pulls guns on people, calls the police claiming other neighbors are threatening him, needless to say he never interacts with anybody. Second day I was here he pointed a gun at my dog in my yard.

Also he is older and appears to be very unhealthy.

Any tips on dealing with him? What to call the cops about if he misbehaves, city ordinance type stuff? This is in Prescott Valley.

I’d recommend getting some wireless cameras and put them on all sides of your house. Sorry that’s all I can offer. Good luck!

Call the cops and tell them he is pointing his gun at people and your dog. They will have to come out and at least talk to him.

You could contact your sheriffs office and ask them for guidance. If you really feel a true safety concern you can submit people like this to the county for a mental evaluation. Just be sure it’s the right thing to do. This can have a major impact on several people.

If he's pulling loaded weapons on people, the law needs to be brought in. Don't get shot, protect your dog.

oops missed it by that much.

I wish I did. I have a few but they are not as reliable as I’d like them to be. Well, one is pretty good but there is always a short delay and it does not always connect to the network. I need to get new ones. I’ve heard great things about Ring but that will only help for your front door.

this is the brand I have but they no longer offer the models I have so maybe they’ll be better. The app works well. https://www.amazon.com/stores/ZUMIMALL/page/E60EED6A-7636-4E35-926F-BFA47D0F59E0?ref_=ast_bln

Do you have a drone? Sounds like he'd point a gun at that and well there's your video evidence. You could try Blink cameras on Amazon. I have a few and they're great

Get your other neighbors together and call the police as a group. It's easier for the police to destinguish a he-said she-said conflict when it's 5 houses collectively filing a complaint.

And after you do that you can get the whole group together and shit on his lawn. It'll be a real bonding experience.

6' high fence. Cameras. Don't get sucked into the tit-for-tat game. Stay clear of the problem. Go about your business.

Don't escalate. Get the authorities and neighbors involved with video evidence of the behavior.

Keep your dog on a leash or confined in your yard. Don't let the dog out of your physical control. This will avoid the "Your dog was chasing me....." excuse.

I want to but can’t right now.

Years ago my parents did that with a neighborhood crazy person and nothing happened. He screamed at people near his house, fired guns at midnight, told people he would kill their animals, stood near the bus stop yelling at the kids, mailed out 20 page letters full of craziness about being persecuted and how he felt lonely because people hated him.

Cops finally arrested him when he was going around the neighborhood shooting at trees because he thought monsters were in them.

What a lot of people don’t understand is that crazy people are very devious when it comes to the law. They know how to file complaints and word things so that makes them look like the victim after they do something terrible to somebody else.

I understand. It isn't easy. But either you make friends with the other neighbors and the local sheriff or you lay low and hope that his next victim will just be a tree.

Cameras help, as suggested above. So does rallying the entire rest of the neighborhood. Reach out to whatever community programs might apply and ask for their advice. Same with city council members. Don't ask for their help, just lay down the scenario and ask "What would you do if this guy was your neighbor?" Just know that any possible solution will take time, patience, and methodical persistence. Such is life.

Nothing will give you an instant out. Just remember that the worst possible thing you can do is to engage the geezer directly. The second worst thing is to be this guy:

Wear a GoPro on your chest or hat any time you feel you may have an encounter with him. Let him be him, you just document it.
