    I have a 2021 TRD Sport

My question is I have noticed she’s a bit hard when shifting through gears she’s a bit rough
    Is that normal?

Easy does it on the stick until you have the muscle memory.

Similarly for the taco as well.

Take some time getting used to the manual on these trucks . Sometimes I get a smooth shift other times wtf moment . You need to take your time with shifts .

The transmission will get smoother with both miles and experience with it. It is and will always be a truck transmission not a GTI.

That said, I have always taken some small pride in my smoothness (not speed) with my manuals -- this one takes more concentration to be smooth with than any other I have had and still provides WTH moments on occasion.

I believe the electronic throttle is a contributing factor. With old style mechanical systems (cable throttle) you can get a sense of timing, just like dancing with a regular partner. With the electronic throttle the computer is always thinking and reacting -- just enough variables to throw off your timing that little bit.

All the above said, it is a very nice, enjoyable shifting transmission for a truck, quirky on occasion yes, but nice.

Depends what you mean by hard, rough... but probably normal.
I had to keep rpms higher than I would have with older trucks. During normal acceleration try shifting 1->2 at 3000rpm-ish, and make it quick. 2->3 at least 2500rpm. After that, just keep rpm above 1500rpm for cruising. See if that smooths it out.
If it seems worse when cold, dump the stock gear oil and put in Motorcraft XT-M5-QS. Great gear oil, improves shift feel and definitely improves cold weather performance, also meets required specs.
    Good luck.
    EDIT- My 6MT was a 2018.

I noticed I would get a clunk occasionally when shifting when it was new. Its gone now at 30,000. Maybe break-in, maybe technique. I have driven manuals since I started driving. These trucks also have an accumulator and orifice in the clutch hydraulic fluid path to slow down the clutch action. Some people remove it. That might help you.

I get the same clunk sound and sometimes the shifter rebounds when going down from 2nd to 1st but apparently it’s normal until break in
It’s my first brand new manual vehicle I have always had used manuals

My 2nd gen is rough too. Swapping the gear oil for Redline MT-90 seemed to smooth it out a bit, especially shifting into reverse.

So, 1 -> 2 at 3k rpm: What happens if you shift at lower RPMs? Does the gear grind? Does the engine bog down?

Then you wish "Good luck" to the OP , plus you went form a manual '18 to an auto '21 :( I'm searching for a manual-transmission Tacoma, but this thread is now giving me second thoughts. Do you miss your manual tranny at all?

Rebound? You mean it just won't drop into gear? 1st is fairly low compared to 2nd. Maybe your speed is too high. Maybe slow down your shifts a little. When I try to shift quickly, I miss gears. I like the transmission fine and either it or I got a little better after the first month.

It's all about timing. You can shift 1->2 and 2->3 at any rpm you want, but if you're slow on the stick, the rpm can fall below where they need to be for the next gear and it will feel like a "rough" shift. Shifting at higher rpms gives more time to make the shift and get the clutch back out in time to match the rpm needed for the next gear.

Good luck was for him to get it figured out. I'm sure the truck is fine.

My 18 MT was a mid-life crisis truck... Had a 1st gen MT, and thought I need a 3rd gen. After knee surgery and lots of short trips I realized that it's just easier to have an AT around. Had an opportunity to sell the MT to Carvana last year for over MSRP, so I had to do it...

I say get what you want.
Tacomas hold their value well, so you're not out a lot if you decide to change things up.

Ah ok, sounds good. And you have a point, I can always trade in for an A/T if the manual does not work for me.

I got 33k miles on my 19 sport . We have to learn the truck .
Every manual vehicle setup is a little different , trucks more so .
It wont take long . You too will join the long list of satisfied taco owner .
Love my manual taco , I'm proud to be part of that small percentage of
People still able and willing to drive a manual transmission vehicle .
The 4.30 gearing of the manual optimizes the 3.5 liter motor .
In no time at all you’ll be singing the praises of the manual taco ,
Just like the majority of us , or you could trade for an auto and
Join the mee too crowd lamenting the woes of the auto transmission ,
Then you can start saving your hard earned money for special tunes and
Regearing . The manual taco will never drive like a European sedan .
Its a truck , a very capable truck , more so as a manual truck .
