I drove it around today and went through all the motions of 2 low double low 4wd. All drives smooth and quiet. Shifts nicely

I got the hellfire knuckles. They’re super beefy. I need a new spindle, outer seals, knuckle wipers, tie rod ends and bungs, rear shocks rear, shock towers, one birfield, and a couple other misc. 407926FB-88A9-4D2D-B41F-EE7640FC0AEC.jpg

I am starting on the rear doing the Chevy swap. The new spring hangers move forward 3 7/8” to keep the same wheelbase. I need new shocks, shock hoops or towers and extended brake lines.

What shock length are you planning for the 63 swap?

14” kings with 7” shackles. angle set with no load at 84* and under load the shackle angle is 60*

I’ve made progress on the 63 swap. I cut all brackets off established the wheelbase and centered the axle and then spotted my shackle mounts and spring hangers. I put it on its own weight to make sure the shackle angle wouldn’t be too flat. Looks good. With no load the shackles are 84degrees off the spring and under load they are at 60degrees which will give them an extra swing radius of around 1.5” droop when flexed. This should work out well. On my last build I used 5” shackles and a steeper angle and I felt it could’ve use some more droop. I wasn’t maximizing the 14” shocks last time.

Didn't need to cut into the bed to clear 14" shocks?

I did last time and probably will this time but I haven’t looked into it too closely yet. I’ll wait till it’s all welded and back together and get the lower shock mounts welded on. Then I’ll get the eye to eye exact height.

for sure, why didn't you choose to go D60? I'm kinda kicking around the idea of a SAS for my taco.... really just seeing what's out there.

I like the idea of keeping it Toyota axles and fj80 knuckles are plenty strong. You can get a 9” or a 8” high pinion. I have a 8” high pinion 3rd. I’m not too concerned with the 8” front the reverse cut is 30%stronger than a low pinion. I have dual cases and have a light foot.
