Making a trade tomorrow if everything goes close to planned. Know little about 1st gen tacomas but figured I'd start by asking. It's a 5sp manual with 150k on it. What are things I should.look for outside of the obvious stuff. Also, I have 17inch FN five stars on my 4runner now, will those fit comfortably on a 1st? Any info or knowledge will help, look forward to being on here often.

    Thanks!

Of course the frame. Is there any maintenance things I should check for? I know 4th gen 4runners calipers seize and exhaust rust off and the rear window tends to leak. Anything like that? Small model specific things?

At 150k I'd either want a maintenance history book or pay for a pro inspection from an independent mechanic, including a compression test.

Frame rot is the #1 problem if in salt country and not loved on regularly, so that's the go to spot.

If that passes, it's just a normal vehicle that requires your close attention to see how it's been treated.

If it has a bunch of modifications, especially wiring or suspension, I'd study those very closely.

Compression test has me curious. Can you elaborate more as to what common problem this is? Completely stock one owner, history looks clean and well maintained.

150k stick shift (4x4?) Tacoma is a nice combo, even better if it has a locker.

I'd personally keep the 4R if it was a V8; a V6 in that year though I wouldn't mind getting rid of at all.

    It's not a 'common problem'.

But it will confirm no excessive wear of rings, valves and that there are no hidden head gasket issues.

It might be just fine as is. Or not. I guess it depends on how lucky you are feeling.

    It's a v6, wouldn't think if it was a v8.

    It's an I4.

    Thanks guys.
