Moto Hauling Options (Trailers/Hitch Haulers/Bed Loading)

So the standard carrier in a high clearance is a real pain in the ass to load because its so damn high and its just really sketchy for me. I made a longer ramp not in the photo but still really sketchy because its so high i cant hold the bars well while it gets fully onto the rack. So i was looking at the mx hauler which is awesome but realized that i wont be able to drop the tailgate with it in the hitch which is a huge bummer. Any solutions? Besides maybe sticking with the conventional carrier with a drop down hitch or something like that? Would definitely prefer an mx hauler but the tailgate issue is a dealbreaker.

 

I have a motohauler (same as the mx hauler), I welded up a hitch extension that lets me open the tailgate. My new bike is under 250lbs. It might be close with my bike; I don’t think I’d do this with a bike over 300lbs. The extension is really simple—just one square tube resting on top of another, but I can send a pic if helpful.

 

My rack-n-rollclears the tailgate on the 4xinnovations high clearance bumper. Longer ramp works well too. I push as far as i can and then grab the rear tire and turn it to walk up the rest of the way

 

Yeah send that over would like to have a look at it. Ideally I would like an mx hauler if i can figure out the tailgate issue. I thought maybe a drop down but then it might be too low?

ok, so i loaned my trailer to a friend and it had a new spare under it that i THOUGHT was attached securely. Evidently it wasnt or someone turned the handle on the T-bolt and stole it. New spare now. I have a 1/2" bolt attached with a locking nut thats bolted to the trailer floor with 4 bolts/lock washers and locktight.

I also have a spare tire hold down, which was a little off center and the black retaining plate was barely wide enough but not for my comfort, so i added a longer steel bar so it wont slip through the center hole. locked the tightening nut with another lock washer/nut.

Added a steel cable tether in case both those fail. it doesnt have enough slack to drag.

Can anyone foresee something stupid happening? Driving 400 miles on wednesday.

I'm looking for bike loading ideas.

Long time rider (>55 years) but that's getting to be a problem when it comes time to load the bike into the back of the Long bed Taco.

I just don't have the muscle or balance any more (age 71) I do OK with the 350 pound dirt bike (KLR), but just OK.
The #450 sport bike (VFR800) gives me pause.
Only what seems a few years back, All I needed was a single step as I walked along side of the running bike. A milk crate would do.
Now, Not so much. I look for embankments to back up to. I need two strapping youths to steady the bike as I play with throttle, brake and clutch to inch the bike up the ramp and into the bed.

I use the Readyramp (https://readyramp.com/) because it folds to fit across the front of the bed, and has many good features.

A big wide ramp ? What do you do with it? Put it in your buddies pickup bed?

I'm almost to the stage of mounting the 12volt winch to the bed front rail and winch the bikes in. Roll it up On wheels or drag it up fallen over ;-)
Fortunately, I seldom need to haul, but.......

So you are just loading up with a single ramp? Easy solution is 2 ramps. It’s how I load and can do it in flip flops.

 

Where do you put all those ramps after the load?

 

How did you get the bike under the rack cross bars?

 

Just in the bed. This is a normal camp loadout for me:

I made the center section removable with sxs roll cage bungs and the rear most cross bar is a sxs door hinge/clasp setup. It lets me open and close that section while maintaining rigidity.
