Hi I am slick Rick in park city ut. Have 2005 toyota tacoma TRD black 198000 miles. I had it since new and it's been an awesome truck.

I changed oil and filter, plugs, air filter washed dirt off. Now starts runs 2 or 3 seconds then dies. I changed cor, maf, cam positioning sensor and still same thing. Fuel pump runs when you first turn key then stops even while still cranking.

Besides loading and firing the parts cannon. What have you done for diagnostics or to isolate the problem?

CEL on? Are the anti-theft indicators normal? Assuming they are, FP reg is the first thing that comes to mind, but really a full system scan is what is needed.

Look at the light(s) is the behaviour correct (as shown in your manual), or is it flashing in a way that may indicate a fault? Your best bet is to head a major auto-parts store; most will have a scanner which you can use free of charge and will give you all the codes in your system.

Simple. Lock it up. Try to break in and hot wire it.

Good point - how does it die? Sputters and slowly dies, or stops immediately?

Toyota's are weird, I think the fuel pump kicks on and primes/pressurizes the system and then shuts off until you actually crank the engine over. Is there a separate fuel pump relay for the pump once you actually crank the engine over? Is there another relay with the same specs in the fuse/relay box you could swap in and see if there is any difference?

These truck use a fuel pump resistor.
The pump operates on High at start up, and changes over quickly to the low speed (through the resistor) once started.

Maybe jump the resistor and see if it stays running.

I'm having the same kind of problem. I checked the relay by bypassing it and jumping wires together. There truck would stay on. Tested the resistance on the resister. It read on the multimeter. It read .7 then .8 which is close to what it's supposed to be. I put the resister back in, same problem. Any ideas? Thank you.

Not a thing on these gen trucks.

The fuel pump energizes and runs full speed at key on engine cranking, not key on engine off like GM does.

This right here. I would try this OP.

And for god sakes quit blowing all of your money on unnecessary parts trying to shotgun fix it man. That's a horrible way to fix a vehicle and will often make it more unreliable then before you started after the fact due to the interior quality of parts you just installed.

Since nobody stated if they are a 2TR or 1GR Here are the circuits to both as they are very different: I assume a 1GR as you said Fuel Pump Relay which the 2TR doesn't have.

How did you bypass the fuel pump relay and what did you jumper? Use the prints below to describe.

    2TR-FE Fuel Pump Circuit:
The COPN Relay is what actually turns on the fuel pump.

    1GR-FE Fuel Pump Circuit:

The Fuel Pump Relay only shifts between the high and low speeds as commanded by the ECU.

The COPN Relay is actually what turns on the fuel pump.

FWIW, I assumed it was the 4.0 since his profile said TRD.
Unless they made a 2.7 TRD?

    Thanks @Jimmyh

I don’t follow exactly what you are saying?

Are you saying that you jumped the relay AND the resistor?
Or did you try them independently?

Isn't there a fuel filter in the tank in front of the fuel pump as part of the fuel pump assembly?

Filter is clogged and/or pump is weak. When pump has full voltage it barely pumps enough fuel to bring the engine to idle. ECU sees idle. Drops voltage. Now pump slows and can't keep up. Engine dies.

What is the fuel pressure? First things first.
