Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Black bears are maybe not as safe as we think. Here is part of one study - “A recent study in the Journal of Wildlife Management documented 59 fatal black bear attacks, resulting in 63 human deaths, in the United States and Canada from 1900 through 2009. And the scientists learned that many of our assumptions about bear dangers are wrong. The most important finding is that it is lone, hungry males—not mothers with young—who are most often the killers.”

We have had a number of cougar attacks in BC too. The RTT tent still a better option than on the ground. Most of the spots I camp are very remote, heavily forested with bear and moose and cougar sign, and just me and my truck. It is not being brave at all, I am very cautious and prepared and equipped. Plus I have done this all my life and addicted to outdoors . I do not take my rifles though when I camp, just bear spray. I do not like taking my hunting rifles out unless it is for hunting. A few years ago I saw a couple young guys camping at a lake where I have not see anyone for many years and where there is a lot of bear sign, in fact fresh scat just 100 yards from their spot. They were sleeping in hammocks, under a tarp. Human sausage rolls.

The only downside to summer camping in CA is not being allowed to have a campfire. But I’d rather not ignite the state so it’s a small price to pay. I grew up camping in New England under tarps or just in a sleeping bag. Never too sure if the bear or the bobcat is 10 feet or 100 feet away.

I’m stoked to get out in the Rockies in BC once the border opens back up. Any spots you recommend feel free to PM me!

Sad thing is, there’s no correlation between properly tended camp fires and wild fires.

If you look at the large fires here they are mostly arson.

Did some car camping at Roan Mountain State Park in eastern Tennessee. Perfect weather for a cool night of sleeping. Hiked the AT for about 7 miles out an back with the pups and then came back to a pot of chili. Good times! Side note: Anyone else love these old Coleman stoves?

    Old Coleman stoves are great!

I have an old Peak 1 I used to take backpacking - I carry it now in my teardrop. Still works great, even on old fuel. I call it "old reliable".

I plan on using one of ours in my future tear drop as well...

man, just the memory of the smell of that stove, cooking scrambled eggs, bacon and pancakes is making me want to quit my job and hit the road right now....

Not an over nighter. Just out for some fishing yesterday. Local small lake, trolling flies. I like trolling flies because I love to row a lake and see all the sights. Have an electric motor, never use it, can row all day without a break. Three small 12 inch rainbows, let them all go. Loons waiting beside the boat while I did so. In 3 hours saw maybe 300 jumpers, some as high as 4 feet out of the water. A young cow moose on the road heading back out.

Yeah grew up using those but my last one gone, rusted out and beat up. Have a propane coleman now, but just not the same. That ritual of pumping part of the charm of those old stoves.

You have those rubber tires bolted on the stern of the boat? I should of done that to my boat instead of dragging it across the ground everytime I went someplace with it.

yeah they are bolted on. There is also a cotter pin that when pulled out lets me flip them upside down so I can have the wheels face down into the water for wheeling it out of the lake onto the dry ground.

Brings back memories. Camped there on a daul sport trip years ago. All was quiet except for the rain. Also, can’t beat the price!

Past weekend down the road a bit in Gala...
