Here's a link to some Ouachita points of interest. My knowledge is limited to the north side of Lake Winona. I see good sites closer to Hot Springs in the link.

I haven't been to one yet. Glad to see it opening up again from last year. The Razorback Ramble is open to any Toyota with a transfer case. :) I like to support our AR Toyota owner clubs.

The loop CS posted that goes from Hwy 7 up Trail 86 past North Fork Pinnacle to Flatside Pinnacle overlook and back towards Hwy 7 has some great overlooks and scenic lunch stops. The Winona spillway is fun too if you make it that far. The south through section of that route is really scenic.

You can't go wrong with a day trip out to Lake Ouachita. Brady Mtn, Crystal Springs and Mountain Harbor are all beautiful. And there are trails that connect them all together for a scenic woodland ride.

Here's an easy trail from Lake Winona Trail in Paron to Thornburg in the link below. The route is more scenic than technical with places to stop for pictures.

It should come up in any browser with pictures.

I lived in Mth. Home before the bridges. Ferry's were the way we got across the lakes. Nice area up there for sure. I loved to water ski Bull Shoals and Norfork.

Sharing a post from FB about the Paron 575 GMRS repeater. Very nice for people who trail the Ouachitas.

I think I can hit that repeater from my house. I heard formal sounding traffic the other night while in my driveway. That's handy.

We had a recent visitor at our property (in McRae) Sunday morning at 4:10am. I'm guessing it's a young male yearling recently booted by mom. He did a bit of damage to our bird feeders and tried getting into our deer feeder. Fortunately, he stayed away from our bees.

It seems like the population is picking up in central AR. They caught one in the dumpster of KFC in downtown Cabot a couple of years ago. Buddy who is building in Bryant area caught one on a game camera turning over a feeder with 300 lbs of corn in it a couple of weeks ago.

Does anyone know, on our Midland GMRS radios if you set the upper Hi-power channels to repeater mode if it will still receive and transmit to other radios or is it only looking for the repeater? I would think it would do both while in repeater mode but not sure. I hadn't had any traffic on 16 since I changed the mode, and manual doesn't say.

It won't, in repeater mode your TX is offset from the normal frequency on that channel. Set up for that Paron repeater you should still be RX on 16 as normal. Dang why did that guy have to go and take channel 16?

These Midland GMRS radios suck for repeaters then, because you can't select a specific channel for the repeater mode. It auto selects all the Hi powered channels, and as far as I can tell, you can't pick a specific one. I'll look again, but maybe we can still use 20 where we can also chat with the all the Chick-Fil-A employees and order extra fries.

I may be out of luck with my MXT275. I see more discussion about the MXT115 and MXT400 and repeater channels.

I have a BTECH GMRS-V1 that will listen on two channels. I want to try to have it listen on the repeater receive and then talk on another channel. Then flip to the repeater receive/xmit combo if I want to communicate through the repeater. I do need some time to practice with somebody.

I bought the BTECH to have a handheld to go with the MXT275. Not a bad little radio for under $60.

https://baofengtech.com/product/gmrs-v1/#:~:text=The GMRS-V1 has one,to receive an incoming call.
    • The GMRS-V1 has one built-in receiver but can “watch” two channels (semi duplex). Monitor 2 GMRS channels or monitor two different frequencies (even on different bands (VHF/UHF)) and the radio will monitor both frequencies giving priority to the first station to receive an incoming call.
