I have a 2020 sr5 Tacoma without the technology package I’m looking at what the best headlights to get that are just simple plug and play. How hard is it to take the headlights out. Thank you all in advance

Not many options for plug and play with SR5 lights. I got a set of morimoto xb led headlights and they were plug and play. If you were to get a set, you’d just have to piggy back a fuse into your current DRL fuse to turn the DRL on.

I have no clue what stock headlights are in my 2020 sr5 but imo i can see fine at night with them. Maybe the op needs their eyes checked?

Maybe OP doesn't need your unprofessional diagnosis?

A cosmetic upgrade is easily justifiable to a lot of people, and not everybody is as perfect a human specimen as you are.

Stock halogen headlights on 3rd gen are rated Poor by IIHS, low beam projector style worst I have seen in many years of driving. I replaced my H11 low beam bulbs with GE (now Tungsram) Megalight Ultra +130 H11 bulbs, much brighter. Modifying H9 bulbs for use in the H11 low beam sockets also has good reviews here as the brightest.

I use the Hikari brand LED headlights and also Fog. Love them, I can actually see the road now at night.

I changed the low beam to Diode Dynamics SL1. As much as I'd like to change the housing to a cooler looking unit, it just seems like a pain to do.

I'm nowhere perfect. Suffered a stroke several years ago, but still can see well day or night. Can't understand why these trucks need brighter headlights just because someone whoever they may be says so. As you get older you do lose some ability to see well at night, some a lot more.

A LOT of people, Including me, say the low beams on third gen are inadequate and if you search TW you will see folks replacing the low beam bulbs to get better lights. The IIHS tested the Tacoma and rated headlights as Marginal, see below. I can’t understand why one person, you, saying they are ok makes them ok lol. I think IIHS testing proves whose right here.

Maybe I’m doing it for brightness and the looks of the truck I want something darker to make my truck look better. My eyes are fine but thanks for the smart ass comment

Its only my opinion as their fine for me driving at night on these secondary back roads, and highways. I was use to my 2001 tundra. This tacoma is a lot better. Its all what you've been use to.

My Tacoma’s high beams are good, if you typically used those on the backroads I can see that. It’s only the low beams I had to improve with better bulbs. Agree it’s what you’re used to, for me the low beams were the worst in any vehicle I’ve owned. With the high lumens new bulbs it’s all good now.

I use both when cars approaching every 20 seconds. Once my tundras headlights became a bit cloudy from age they were terrible. I had to restore them periodically to get enough light. This 2020 sr5 tacoma are so bright vs them.

You have LED bulbs in your stock halogen housings?

I replaced my stock halogens with an 35W H11 HID kit. Did 5000K bulbs. Did Lamin-X yellow over the stock halogen fogs.

That is a really subtle and quality upgrade. Well done, that makes it look like a premium package.
