There isn't to much info on this, I searched a while back. There is one thread somewhere on this. I have a 16 also and mine only does this in the spring, when we get rain in my area. It doesn't rain much so I only deal with this a few times a year. I tried going through the carwash a few times and it wouldn't do it so I just accepted it knowing I would one day upgrade the head unit

You should let Ted know that the driver controls the radio. If he doesn't listen make him ride in the bed.

Seriously though...first thing I would do is ring out your ground. Or just run a new one.

Does the radio re-boot itself (no manual intervention on your part) after it shuts off? If so, what you may need is a re-flash of the radio. Depending on the dealer and if you are still under warranty or not, cost may be minimal. Ask first.

Our 2014 4Runner and our 2015 Highlander both did this. The 4Runner did it 9 times during a short trip. It's a known problem. Really frustrating though. The re-flash fixed both of them.

@rickc5 the last time It did it it just kept going In The cycle where it displays the Toyota emblem then the caution and it would shut off and go black. Now it’s just shooting a blank screen

Mine does this from time to time as well. If I force a restart of the head unit by holding in the volume button for a few seconds, it seems to break the cycle and reboot. Not great.
