Wife told me yesterday that her dad wanted to do a Father's Day deal at a cabin "in the Ozarks" and I got a excited. Turns out her family owns some land and a primitive hunting cabin near the east end of Lake of the Ozarks. Unfortunately the cabin is already spoken for and tent camping with an 8 month old in late June doesn't sound too appealing.

Asked my wife why we've been together for 13 years and she's never mentioned the cabin. "Dad talks about going to the farm all the time." "Yeah but 'farm' and 'cabin near Lake of the Ozarks' are two very different things." "I figured if you saw the cabin you'd try to move in." Also suspect she knew I'd want to go up there all the time and she's not a huge fan of no power or running water.

    Yeah.
Just FYI, 114.8 is code 16 in the menu (this is cool as it makes it easy to remember). The 115 and 275 are pretty much the same as far as function.

See that note at the bottom of Page 20? It's a lie. Supposedly, the first 2 menu choices should change if you are set in repeater mode (instead of getting one option for Pt, you get tC and rC so you can set them independently). There are 2 versions of the manual apparently, so maybe there is a firmware update?

I like chartreuse, just don't know about a whole truck covered in it. I think it's fine in smaller doses, like on a "hot hatch," but on a whole truck? I'll have to see it in person.

Trail edition may also come with that new OEM "lift kit" installed.

Wow. No kidding. The document that I'm downloading to use from the Midland is different from the image. Confusing. Does yours look the way it's described in this manual?

    Yeah.
It's funny, I went to the product page for the MXT115 and pulled up the owner's manual, and it has that same note, and in the Menu section shows a set of menu choices that is slightly different when you are in Repeater mode, allowing you to set different tones. So, I tried it on my radio and the menu didn't change (no choices for different Tx and Rx codes). So, I Googled "MXT115 Manual" and it pulled up a version from the Midland site that did NOT show those menu choices or note.

On the product page, it says "8 repeater channels - Split Tone Capable" so it seems that some radios may have this feature.

So, I am wondering if there is a newer version of the radio or firmware, or if I am the problem. If anyone knows how to get those different menu choices to come up, post up so Matt can use his local repeaters.

I have a new MXT275 from MidlandUSA that I will be installing in the next few days. I'll check it to see which document it matches. Which radio is Matt using?

I do have the 275, probably a year old and has those notes on pgs 20-21. I set the tone to 114.8 (16) on the 16rp, and now I am all kinds of confused. I radio checked the repeater and can hear my own roger beep when I stop transmitting, tried it and heard it 3 times, so I'm assuming I hit it, just didnt get a response, or didnt receive the response. Also adjusted my squelch to a lower sensitivity. Here's my confusion tho, we can tx to repeater on 16rp with correct tone, but can we tx and rx on 16rp? And do we set the 114.8 on 16 and 16rp? Surely we don't rx on one channel and tx on another, seems while on 16rp (or whichever repeater) with correct tone you can do both.

I saw a post somewhere on the forum where an MXT was mounted in console using a pass through, and also found this vid:

    Yeah.
My understanding: Using the RP channels, it just offsets your transmission frequency to hit the repeater instead of hitting other radios directly. You are still listening on the standard channel. The privacy code applies to both, which is why Matt needs to be able to set it separately since repeaters in his area use a different code for Tx and Rx. You likely hear only your roger beep because you were transmitting. If you hear the beep, then it sounds like it is set up correctly. You just need someone else to do a test with you to verify.

EDIT: For example, if someone else is transmitting within range using standard channel 16 and the same privacy code, you would be able to hear them even though they are not going through the repeater.

One thing I like about the 275 is that it has a speaker on the unit and the handheld. If you're like me and your hearing isnt what it used to be, keep that in mind when picking an install spot.

Also, to answer your question, I'm 99% sure the 275 cable is compatible with a Cat 6.

That makes sense, I think I was reading too many different forums where ppl were having Matt type problems and could only rx on 16 and tx on 16rp, and were having to use a diff radio to monitor.

Pelsor575 repeater is also on 16, but the tone is 141.3 (22). Now I'm wishing the MXTs had a memory bank...

    Yeah.
So, apparently I am a victim of some very odd timing. Just yesterday, Midland released new versions of both the MXT115 and MXT275 with a USB-C charging port (rather than the USB-A that I have). Along with this they added the Split Tone capability. This is why I was finding 2 different manuals. No info on whether our old ones can be upgraded yet. Here's the blog post they posted just yesterday: https://midlandusa.com/split-tones-what-you-need-to-know/

@TerraNerva if you need a new mic, note the bottom of the blog post. The new mic is not compatible with the old radio, but they tell you the correct part number for the old radio.
