Black bears are scaredy cats, it’s pretty easy to get them to run by making loud noises. That’s why they tell hikers to wear bells when hiking in bear county. But do you know how to tell the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat? Black bear scat has seeds, and sometimes bits of bone and fur in it, and grizzly bear scat has all that plus bells in it.

Another way to tell the diff between a black bear and a grizzly is if you climb a tree and the bear follows you, that’s a black bear. If the bear shakes the tree till you fall out, a grizzly. :D

You'll possibly have a generator and a jump box per the list, how about a battery charger? And have you considered studded snow tires?

I have 0 knowledge on ice bridge, however I know enough about tire that everyone that says that KO2 are really good in winter never had a real winter tire or is just lying to him/her self. The -40 should only make my point more valid.
However sounds like a cool project.

First, your trip sounds exciting! Wow, I would be all over that!

I really liked the diesel heater that XO installed in the Tacoma. Seems smart to have!

For sure film this and make a video for us!

    Check build thread!
As someone who's done -40f weather

    Tire chains
Block heater (might be standard on your truck
Windshield fluid rated for at least -60
    Space blanket
Get the best fucking battery you can.

Spare wiper blades. Sounds stupid, but they break in the cold weather.

Get some proper studded snow tires.

So much clothing. As much as you can. Multiple sets incase you get wet.

Bring supplies to do ur own maintenance. Supplies can be 20x the cost up there, or not in stock at all.

    Spare gas.

Make sure there's no water in your antifreeze at all. Don't risk using 50/50.

Bear Spray. Good first resort to buy time.

I'd bring a rifle, but I get if you aren't prepared prepared do that.

Booster pack. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015TKUPIC?ref_=d6k_applink_bb_marketplace - this is what I have

Spare, non perishable food. Might just save your life.

Thats all I got for now.

It's -20 to -30 where I live for some extended periods of winter but pretty rarely -40 for more than a week ever. Sounds like a lot of the things I do already but more intense and no taking no chances.

Planning on bringing a bolt in .308, a 12 gauge and a .22 with supplies to hunt and fish as much as I can and am allowed to.

Nice to see you have the GB40 too. I got it for my winters here and figure it's good enough for the trip up as long as I make sure it's charge before doing the ice roads.

Right? I'm pretty excited about this.

I'll have to get a gopro or something for the ice road portion for sure.

I will likely go with chains if the roads are not good condition I think. I like the idea of my K02's so that I don't run winter studded tires during the summer there that can still get 30C+. Not going to do any crazy off road but apparently the roads there are basically as bumpy as off road trails.

I've been told and from some research that it really depends the weather. Sometimes they are fine and can be done with ease and if the weather has been bad, they can be a mess and even shut down to travel.

Turbodb has a nice list of tools he recommends being kept in a roll-up bag. It was easy and inexpensive to assemble as I already had most everything. He goes off-roading and can touch about every screw or nut. https://tinyurl.com/3whv5sf4

I second the opinion that there are definitely better cold weather options than the KO2, but they should work fine. Any tire is going to be rock hard in those conditions anyway, even winter tires. K02's get a lot of hype for their rock crawling and general off road prowess and are tough tires, but there have been lots of complaints about grip issues even in rain. However, toss a set of tire chains on when necessary and you should be as good as anyone else out there.

Yeah... I've experienced them in the rain/snow and I do see what people are saying. I am considering changing them out with Falken Wildpeaks as I hear better things about them. Just for the long drive on mostly 80-90km/h roads.

For the ice road portion, I'm pretty committed to chains.

Take one of those really small Bibles, the paper is super thin and lights easy. (I was told this my 1st week in Alaska) I've done -66F then the thermometer crapped out. Best real pro tip - 1) take spare batteries if you have battery power things and duct tape them in you arm pits - no kidding, that's one of the last places to freeze. 2) extra spark plugs as needed + wrench/socket 3) Water proof boots, Danners or Caribou. 4) A real gps device. 5) Mitts plus hand warmer for the thumbs, thumbs are important, try to keep them.
