Hello all, this is my first post on the forum… I just purchased a 2021 Tacoma SR, 4x4 Double Cab… Let the fun begin turning this “work truck” into a decent looking rig. After searching countless hours through the Tacoma World Form, I believe the set up I will be working for is a 3” suspension lift on 285/70r17.

**Stock Picture of my truck before upgrades included**

    SUSPENSION:
I have opted for Ironman 4x4’s Foam Cell Pro stage 2 set-up. I actually ordered this lift before I purchased my truck. I was able to pull the trigger during their 25% off sale - out the door $2,100.

**Image and link to the suspension below, but this suspension includes the following:**
    - Front Coil Springs
    - Rear Leaf Springs
    - Foam Cell Coilover Struts
    - Rear Shock Absorbers
    - Pro Forged Front UCAs

    https://ironman4x4america.com/foam-cell-pro-suspension-kit-suited-for-2005-toyota-tacoma-stage-2/

    Wheels:
I really like the look of these Alloy Ion Style 171. Looking to bring a classic wheel to a modern truck – if anyone is running these, please share!

    Wheel Specs: 17x9 (0 offset) (5 backspacing)

    https://www.customwheeloffset.com/b...sion=Leveling+Kit&bolt_patterns=6x5.5,6x139.7

    Tires:
I’m between BFGoodrich KO2s / Falken WildPeak AT3W / Toyo Tires Open Country. If anyone has recommendations here – or any insights, greatly appreciated.

    Questions:
I am not looking to get a CMC at this time. My research has led me to believe that these wheel specs / lift size and the aftermarket UCAs will prevent any rub at full crank. If anyone is running a 285/70r17 setup with 3” of lift with wheel specs 17x9 0offset 5backspacing, please let me know how things are working out for you.

Lastly – I will update this form as I make progress to the truck. I've included a rendering of a tacoma with the build I am after as well.

In my opinion it will definitely rub if you do any kind of off-roading. First, a lift doesn’t help with rubbing all you are doing is changing where in the overall travel the truck sits. As you compress the suspension it is the same as not being a lifted. Next, adding caster with the upper control arms actually pulls the wheels back into the wheel wells. I’m not saying UCAs aren’t necessary but I don’t believe they will help with clearance. Last, my 3rd gen had a slight rub if you tucked the tire and turned the wheels with with 265/70/R17 tires and 0 offset wheels. 285s are a big tire for these trucks.

    Thank you @JCH

I'm thinking offset and Backspacing will be biggest factors here. I've read that the sweet spot is anywhere from 0 to -10 offset, with a 4.5 to 5 backspacing. I'm not too worried about rubbing off-road, as that should be expected to a certain degree.

Just not looking to perform a CMC, and this is also a daily driver.

Do you think a -10 offset would help with clearance from the 265 to 285?

I believe more offset usually makes clearance worse, as you are increasing the distance between the edge of the tire and the spindle. This will push the tire closer to the fender well when turned. In general I think that if you want to run 285s you need to be prepared to do serious trimming. People with more direct experience with them might be able to chime in.

I run 285/75/16 with -10 offset didn’t need to do a cmc just took out the hammer and needed to cut the inside black liner in some spots. Which was enough to take her on the trails with no problems

@charliehex damn dude. I was between the black truck and going with a red and gold combo like you have. I went with black, but I don't think I could have made a bad choice either way. One last question for you - is your wheel a 17x9 or 17x8.

Looking to pull the trigger on wheels today!

OP never trust a keyboard warrior rat who has to make snide comments from the safety of his wife’s son’s computer.

@bzzr2 all love in the thread here man. I bought a base SR 4x4 and a lift that I'll probably never see the full capacity of!

my build will be mostly a parking lot princess / daily commuter / weekend warrior

The wheels are 8.5” wide. I’m going to go heavier duty suspension when I graduate next year and dont have to give Arizona State 15k a year.

I hear you, I went back to university, money can be tight. If it came to spacers or nothing, I would go spacers also :-/
