5-8 for most my pistols. 10 for my EDC so I dont have to unload hollow points from 3 mags when go to the range.
25+ AR mags, not that I need that many.
Bolt rifles just 2 mags just to have a spare if one gets damaged.

Just the mags my pistols come with unless the spring gets tired then I buy a new one. Honestly I have only carried with one mag my whole life with one in the chamber so I count the +1 as being prepared.

Lots, I rotate them. 1 in, condition 1, 2 additional, loaded with defense ammo. These are 10 round. In a shooting, I don’t want to get jammed up over the standard 17 round mags or the 21s I have. Stupid, but it’s reality.
Realistically, most home scenarios are 1 to 3 shots. If I were to go through three mags, I’m in a world of poop. Aside from that, we have numerous layers of security. If someone gets past that and breaches the house, they are going to be in for a hell of a fight. By that time, my wife and I have likely gone to a tactical shotgun, an AR, and the PD is on its way.
I don’t care what happens outside or to property, but once someone tries to enter the house, they are getting a hard lesson in violence of action.

4 for my CZ P09. two have CZ+2 base plates for a total of 21+1.
3 for my Sig P250 sub compact 45acp (my everyday carry).
2 for my newly purchased S&W Shield 40. have 200+ rounds in that caliber figured i might as well by platform to shoot them through. fell into it at a friends gun shop for $250 out the door. LNIB, owner fired one mag through it and found the recoil was to much.

I thought you guys couldn't own AR's without the mag well like welded shut or some shit in Cali? I'm probably wrong though.

    ***Edit***
Nevermind, look at that.... welcome back to America California! Lol

There’s a lot going on with ARs, mags, and other things. It’s complicated to say the least. It’s also easy to be in violation and not know it. There is a CA flow chart for weapons to help you understand if you are legal or not. Lots of things I have are grandfathered in but the problem is you don’t know what you are going to get in an interaction with a LEO. My BIL is PD and he has told me some officers ignore updates about laws or directions from the DA and do as they wish with things like firearms configurations. Grandfathered stuff can be difficult to determine whether it falls into a legal timeframe. What this means is it is easy to get arrested even if it is sorted out in your favor. That creates problems with the job I have as I would be suspended until the matter is adjudicated and then I would likely have some issues with my professional license. In addition, any firearm that is confiscated can’t be returned until I’m background checked again for each one. It’s a sort of legal harassment designed to make firearms, especially ones CA doesn’t like so risky, people avoid them or won’t use them.
CA passes these complicated and often grossly unconstitutional laws because they know it will take years and even decades to undo them with no consequences for the state. For us, the consequences can be very severe, but if the state is found to be in the wrong, all they do is say, “oops...”. It’s a very one-sided deal.
For me, I’ll remain cautious until there is a final decision on a matter. It’s not always clear when a stay or injunction has been issued that changes the legality of something. Because of this, the AR is a tertiary weapon. Glock first, tactical shotgun, then the AR. The shotgun is totally compliant, an 8 round Mossberg Military and Police 500 loaded (cruiser ready)with slugs and buckshot. I’ve thought about storing the AR and going to a lever-action in .357 or .44 instead.
My long-term solution is moving to a gun friendly state when I retire in a few more years.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
3-4 for each of the pistols.

And a few speedloaders for the wheel gun.

More for the ARs and AK.

Three minimum. More for my older, out of production firearms, which is most of them.

6+ for my uses. I use my handguns for USPSA, etc so I have one dedicated mag for defensive ammo then 5 match mags plus generally a spare.
