Oh cosmetic issue : hinges are fading.
Rob and I recommended moving to a powder.

Wow. I sprayed WD40 into the blue latches and now they work perfectly. I think I assumed SP has put some lubricant in there during manufacture, like white grease or something, and I didn't want to put something else in there. Also, I thought "it's just a ball bearing and spring assembly, shouldn't get jammed so easily." But apparently a little lube is all it needed. FWIW

I would not be using WD-40, but a dry silicone based lubricant. Hold rag under latch to catch drippings and spray.

OK. Now that I've screwed up and sprayed WD40 (which I agree was a mistake, will gather dust which will erode the mechanism, etc.) what do I do now? Clean out WD40 with... what? Wait how many number of days for it to dissipate on its own? What's best practice to correct a WD40 mistake?

Spray it off. Use soapy water if you need. Spray a dry lube on it.

I wouldn’t call it a mistake. You can clean it out with some water and soap but don’t lose sleep over it. Mine is WD40 and I’m not losing sleep. If the dusts “erodes” the mechanism which would take a few hundred repetitive opening and closing motions , it’ll loosen up the system lol.

I power washed my hinge area after Baja since so much dust go stuck to the WD40.
I can take a closer look when I'm at my truck. I might try to clean it out more but its working fine. It's not currently parked at my house.

I don’t know if anyone else has done it yet but an alternative to the Shitco Awning plate is a rain-fly pole holder bundle from GZila. The only issue is that I had to grind down the track nuts to fit the SP track, but after that everything worked just fine. Also, with the “newer” tent pole tabs on the SP tent there was no need to use the alligator clips.

Use Boeshield T9. First weekend I had my latches ice/freeze up in the snow. Added a solid coat of T9 and haven’t had an issue since with tons of snow camping.

wd-40 isnt really a lubricant, it’s a solvent. Great place to start if your latches are gunked up and need cleaned, but it won’t help actually coat/repel the issue in the future.

t9 adds a waxy film that keeps gunk from sticking/accumulating better than just cleaning with wd-40.

Do you have an install date yet? or estimated install date? If so, when did you hear from them about colors and estimated install?

last update from super pacific was 5-12-21. They stated installs will be scheduled end of July or early August. I chose colors and options back in March. That is also when I payed the 50% deposit.

Just ordered the bundle. How exactly did you grind down the nuts? I mean width or depth?

Keep forgetting to ask. Does anyone else have this stuff on the inside corners of their side door opening? And what is it for and did you remove it? I assumed because they left it in it had a function, but I’m wondering if it was just a protective coating that should be removed.4814A75D-8934-40AE-B4F8-536ACBCEE946.jpg

It’s like sealer. That sheet metal has slits in it to make the bend so they covered it with this material to seal it.
