Little of this, little of that.
Anyone find a cable that they like to use with the SimpleUSB adapter? I want something short and out of the way, I might just modify the cable it comes with.

After reading 35 pages, I went to buy the Garmin Mini, and it's not available anymore! Any good low-draw alternatives to use in conjunction with the usb adapter?

That's crazy! I'm sorry about that. I just checked Amazon- where I got mine- and it won't come up. If you're really set on this one, target had a few in stock. the garmin website was saying 2-3 wks

Thank you! I ended up ordering the Garmin 46, hopefully it works with the USB mirror adapter!

The 46 will work fine with the SimpleUSB. I use one with my Garmin 56 with no problems.

I see you ordered the 46. I checked Amazon today, and the mini (sold by Amazon) will be back in stock on 6/16 or there about. I'm also looking to pick up the mini, already have the Dongar Technologies adapter.

I gotta say, the 46 is working very well so far with the dongar adapter. Got a 6 inch right angle cable to connect the two, and I haven't touched it since. No getting hot, no connectivity issues; I'm loving it. The best part is I got the "Amazon renewed" version for $94, but looked new to me!

    Hi All,
    Looking to go this route.
Can anyone provide a link to the newest correct Dongar adapter for the mirror?
I want to make sure I am getting it correct.
Also is it possible to provide any other recent links for correct USB cable, SD card?
This is the link I am using to purchase the camera. is the mini still the best option or the 66W now the better choice?

Can't say about the 66. I was going to buy the mini myself and see that Garmin just released the mini 2: https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/731428
Not sure yet if there is any real difference between the 2 versions.

I checked. The Mini 2 has Vault Storage, Remote Live View and Parking Guard (vs. Parking Mode), that the Mini 1 does not have.

Good to know the adapter works well with the mini 2.
Where did you buy it from?

I appreciate OP for sharing. I would not have known about this. However, this device did not work with my Rexing V1. The USB did not have enough power and the camera would cycle off almost immediately after start.

This is the camera I used.

Instructions I used for install (I do not have the rear cam model):
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edHWtM7g5Cw

Everything works as intended now. I tucked all of the excess wiring behind the kick panel underneath the fusebox. A couple of notes:
    - you will need a small flat screwdriver to pop the interior fuse cover lid off. Push in the tab at the rear of the fuse box.
    - The factory fuse puller is attached underneath the lid of the engine fuse box.

Anyone have an issue with their Mini just failing to power on with the USB SmartAdapter? I went to capture an event and when I tried to grab the footage off the camera it was not powered on.

I removed it from the dash and powered it in the house and confirmed it works, last recorded event was June 8th (I don’t capture stuff often), put it back in the truck and no dice. Changed cables, and then tried the USB plug on the dash, it would light up and flicker, then die.

I have an 18w 12v adaptor, plugged it into that on the 12v socket on the dash with the USB cable I’ve been using and it seemed to work fine.

It’s like the truck will no longer provide it enough power to run? Worked fine since I ordered it back on Feb 24, stopped functioning sometime in the past 3 weeks. Next long drive I’ll try it for longer periods of time on different cables. Only variable that changed is the outside temp is significantly hotter now that it’s July vs Feb when it was purchased.

Is the SimpleUSB working at all at this point? Your post is unclear.
If it has failed, you should contact the seller on Amazon. He seems to be a pretty stand-up guy.

Yes, I should have clarified that the mirror has power and works fine.

The dash cam acts the same off the dash USB port but works fine off my own 18w 12v adaptor.

Thanks to OP and everyone who has contributed to this thread. All the contributions/questions/answers made it simple for someone like myself. Just installed the mini 2, Donger adapter and polarizing cap. Had it up and running in about 15 minutes and that included downloading the Garmin app, pairing with my phone...everything. So far so good and no issues downloading clips on my phone. When I opened the Donger box, it came with two 6” right angle cables, which was a nice surprise because I forgot to order any. Super happy with the quality for what it is. I have not tried the parking feature but plan to get to that down the road.
