Taco 17’ New Wheels *HELP

Looking to get a lift on my stock 2017 Tacoma TRD. My plan is to lift it 2-3 inches from stock height.

What size wheels and tires will I be able to fit? Would 18s fit without rubbing or cuts? My wheels are currently 16s

there are about 6487 threads on here with sizes, lifts etc.. maybe more. that being said, I found it useful to learn what an offset is, what tire diameter means and how to search threads.

The options are many. What you can fit really depends on a lot of things. What do you want? you don't "need" huge tires, some guys (and there's threads on this) prefer a skinny tire. you can go with 16's, 17's, or 18's. You can have different type of offsets and rim widths. All of those factors will dictate which tire you can and cannot use. I would browse and see what people have and what you like. Unfortunately, no one can really answer this question for you.

 

The type of lift, wheels, tires and application matters. What lifts are you looking at buying? Are you looking for a wide tire stance? Are you going to drive your truck on some gnarly trails? Are you going long travel? Do you just want a different aesthetic?

Without doing some super expensive and technical modifications, 35” tall tires are the limit for our trucks. For reference, this guy is running 35” BFG KM3 with a 2.5” Eibach lift and he had to do a significant amount of work to get them in there.

This isn’t perfect advice but for a 3”/2” spacer lift like I’ve got you can run 285/70/17 (32.75”) BFG KO2 (or similar) on a 17” Method 701 without rub. I’ve only had the rear axle twisted as much as it could handle in some rutted roads once and my rear tires never touched my fender. I’m not doing anything more technical than that until I upgrade tires, suspension and gearing but what I’ve got gets me to the hills and over basic stuff pretty easy with no rub.

As far as 18” wheels go, I prefer smaller diameters because I want more tire sidewall than wheel. Less chance of rashing the wheels up. I guess 18” would give you more clearance around the caliper for super muddy situations when you could get gravel and other debris bound up in the wheel but I don’t take my truck through that stuff just yet. Method makes the 701 in an 18” but the width and backspacing are very different so I can’t make any recommendations.
