My steering wheel started wearing through at the top where I usually put my hand. It also doesn’t help that that’s where the sun is hitting it mostly. See pic.

I’d like to get a cover for the steering wheel, but prefer to keep it more stock looking if possible. Any of you guys or gals have experience with steering wheel covers? If so, which brand do you prefer?

I bought my steering wheel cover from Walmart about 3 or 4 years ago for around $12.00 when I was in AZ. Even though the steering wheel in my truck was still in really good shape I wanted to protect it from that brutal AZ sun. Slips on with a little effort and stays put. Now I can't drive without.

Thanks for the replies! I’ve got some decisions to make.

jimmy- I like the idea of the leather one, but not certain I have the time to get it done!

edit: how long did it take you to install?

you could potentially replace with good used part

some companies make a wrap around cover that gets sewn on (probably by hand) with stitching. That might be another option.
Sometimes those go over the existing material, or the existing material must be removed first before stitching it on.
Upholstery shops might be able to do something similar

I had a similar issue but had not let i progress as far.
I found this lace up leather cover on Amazon.
AmazonSmile: BELINOUS Leather Car Steering Wheel Cover Lace Up, Stitch On Wrap (Size M4, Gray): Automotive

Size M4 / Gray worked for me.

it took 40 min or so to lace it up. I was not very dedicated on the lacing but am happy with the result and feel.

It also seems to keep the steering wheel cooler in these hot Arizona summers. Or at least I do not burn my hands as much.

Steering wheel cover off of AliExpress, they sell them for the 05-11 models as well. Think I got it for less than $30cdn shipped.

My wheel was pretty messed up by the PO (work truck). I bought a new OEM steering wheel from the dealer.
Good thing I drive a 2012 base model (urethane), the wheel wasn't too expensive. The leather one was $700+

Have you thought about finding a good used one from a junkyard?
