    Hey there,

Seems a few people have relocated their carplay plug elsewhere, has anyone found a blank to fill that hole? Seems like it's a bit of a different size than the rest? I asked in the 2020 parts thread and didn't hear back so I thought I'd ask a larger audience.

    Thanks!

I have not seen a blank that fits. Most people bought the new radio/usb harness off of Alibaba and left the factory cable/usb port in the dash.

    That's what I did.

I saw that option, thanks for chiming in. Wonder if it's possible to keep that plug in use for charging.

I believe someone posted a few pictures and maybe a writeup for extending the media port into the glovebox, and extending the charging port from the glovebox back to the dash.

Depends how crazy you want to get wiring things and spending money on extenders and cable.

I figured if I ever need to charge anything I've still got my 2 charging ports in the glovebox and a plugin charger for the aux power outlet.

Hmm, might need to tear it apart and look into it. I'm putting a safe in my glove box, so could pull that and reroute it to the front, essentially the opposite of what people are doing.

    Thanks

I have a USB thumb drive with my music on it. It's one of those tiny thumb drives but the cover of the dash port still won't close with it plugged in. I've thought about extending that dash USB port to the glove box. I think it wouldn't be an operational issue as long as you only plug in one device.

There are a few threads on this, just search media port relocation. I bought a new radio cable off Alibaba, dropped it down behind the radio near the shifter, then used a USB extension cable to relocate into the glovebox.

Well, I 3D printed a square one so I could use my RedArc Tow-Pro Elite (EBRH-ACCV3-NA) in that slot. The kit does come with a small plug in case you had a regular sized opening in the dash, so I used that as a kind of template for the new 3D printed one. Worked ok. If you think about it - it really doesn't need much room for the Tow-Pro Elite nob, and the media port opening fits it just fine.

However, before I decided on what to put in there - what I did was buy a blank cover (Genuine Toyota Blank Cover 55539-06090-C0) and then cut it in half and sand it down. then glued it together with superglue until it was square. That fit great.

This right here! staring me in the face this whole time. Great suggestion on getting original blank and then sanding down, I just did not see anyone making these blanks and they are a smaller size. I really needed an extra spot for my light bar and this would actually be a perfect spot for the trailer brake as I too have a redarc and used a blank by the steering wheel so this suggestion nails two birds with one stone so much appreciated. I actually used a dual usb flush mount and drilled it into my TOYOTA TACOMA 3RD GEN USB POWERED ACCESSORY MOUNT (3TPAM)

That thing is awesome and for the longest time I have wanted to move my car play usb too up on that mount. It wasnt easy because at the same time I installed my front camera and overide switch... there are so many wires back there now it's a jungle. I also have the screen mirrioring device that also gives me an extra video out plus the front rear camera anytime so I was worried about any issues as I am using dual passthroughs on the head unit connections but I guess the way I hooked it up works no problem!. So on this usb plug https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07SRPK349?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details&th=1 one plug is the apple car play connection and the other plug is the screen mirrioring port. All in all I am really happy with my setup but looking back the screen on the tacoma is trash so screen mirrioring is crappy until I ever upgrade my headunit. At that time I am sure I will still rather plug in for the screen mirrior so having this will still be helpful, but what the screen mirrioring kit really gives me is an extra video out that I can shuffle through using my steering wheel controls. When I switch too the extra video out that single one will be split again with one of those 4 channel selecting button controls for activating up too 4 different cameras and I was going to set up multiple cams underneath my truck for ability to see clearances when off roading without havng to get out. Granted that last one is kinda over the top but I was just dreaming up what I could do with that extra video port and this came to mind and I thought it would actually be more practical than all the other mods I have done... just will rarley use it but when I do I am sure I will enjoy my offroading with a huge smile. Thanks again! I probably will come back with pics and maybe do a big thread on what I did. I see a lot of threads of relocating and making things custom just not quite what I am doing with the underside cameras and making things still look super OEM.
