Good part is this is about half the price of the others I've been looking at like the Mountain Hatch. Bad part seems to be that some of the reviews stated they had trouble getting the tailgate to close after installing. Guess you could give it a try and return it if it doesn't work.

Wish i saw that before getting the snail armor. I like it, but its just a flat piece of material. Although, snail armor fits flat and doesnt ride the lip at the bottom of the tail gait. Something to consider.

    Can't find a 12" x 12" piece of plywood????

If you're just needing a flat piece for sketching........

You can take the ply anywhere on the jobsite.

That’s exactly why I prefer the SnailArmor. Fits perfectly flat. I don’t understand why the other company’s don’t cut out for the ridge at the bottom of the tailgate. It looks poorly designed having a big bump there.

Seems pricey for just a plastic panel. I would pay a little more for a steel panel that would double as a flat surface along with tailgate reinforcement. I did eventually added a carpet cover for extra padding for tailgating. I went with mobtown offroad.

Snail armor is aluminum or steel or something. I added a rubber sheet over the top of mine.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
    Another opinion ...
I use my tailgate as a workbench at times. I like the OEM style because the recesses are a good place to put small fasteners & tools so they don't roll off. If I need a flat surface for sketching, there's almost always a small piece of plywood close by.
To each his/her own I suppose. If I need a cutting board I'll grab one from the kitchen.

I read that too. I didn't quite understand where it was binding but maybe a little trimming is possible.

From what I saw on one of the reviews that included pictures it's hitting a rubber bumper that is attached to the frame where the tailgate rests. The insert is too thick there to work with the bumper. Some reviews note the issue some say perfect fit. Wonder if it's a G2 vs G3 problem.....

Glad i got my tailgate panel, i went with AL offroad, the powder coated aluminum is sightly textured though so it wouldnt be good for sketching. Maybe a large cutting board would work to sketch on

Lol I was thinking the same thing. I have a steel panel from Mobtown. Its very nice, but heavy. I would have given this a try, considering the price.

How do you like the AL Offroad panel? Does it get crazy hot in the sun or does the powder coat help with that? I'm debating between AL, Snailarmor, and Mountain Hatch

I like it, id rather have metal than the plastic mountain hatch one. And the AL cupholders are deep so they help if ur parked on an incline whereas the MH cupholders are shallow. Im usually chillin in the pines so i havent had the tailgate get blasted by sun while its down and i have a fiberglass shell so it doesnt heat up while im driving. I thought it would be really hot too

I got it and really like it. Prefect price, IMHO, for what it is. Much nicer to crawl in on.

The reviews are accurate, but 30sec with a dremel and life is good.

You are correct. It's the location of the rubber bumpers and takes no time to fix.

    Great list!

The one thing is that shipping was a factor for me. I really wanted the PakRax one, but the $30 shipping kept putting me off. The 3/16in thick aluminum also raised a question or two, but it has to be better than 1/2in HDPE. Anyway, with Amazon Prime and some rewards points, it kinda flipped the table for me.
