I have an OEM-style aftermarket cruise control system (it looks 100% factory) that was installed by a place called H&R Radio last March; To say they botched the job is an understatement. He cruise control was installed successfully, but the moron who installed it damaged both the clockspring and the wheel position sensor. The employee of course denied any wrongdoing and the owner refused to pay for repairs, citing that since my mechanic had attempted to install the cruise control months prior, it wasn’t his problem.

My mechanic ended up fixing the truck and the cruise control has been problem-free until now; I drove from my house in Central Bucks all the way up to the Reading area for a car show this morning (Roughly 60 miles, most of it on the turnpike), and it worked great.

I switched it on upon getting on the turnpike to drive home, and the green “CRUISE” light came on, but the cruise control itself would not engage.

The parts and labor are under warranty, but for reasons you all can probably understand, I really would prefer not to go back to this damn place.

Any idea what could be wrong?!?!

”CRUISE” light comes on when button is pushed, but cruise control will not engage; Weighing my options…

It is a Metris kit, but it is pretty much identical to OEM…

Where is the fuse for the cruise control located?

Went to the stealership; Based on the symptoms I described, the switch is bad…

Luckily, I have an OEM switch so I will have my mechanic put that in!

The other issue I was told it might have is that the throttle body is bad, but so don’t think that is the case; No warning lights on whatsoever!

Brake light switch would be the easiest thing to check, There should be power on the purple wire with the brake Released and no power with the brake Applied. There is no dedicated Cruise fuse, it's all handled by the PCM.

We’ve established that it likely is not a fuse; More than likely the switch on the steering wheel is bad, and I have another one of those in my parts stash!

I already have an aftermarket backup camera in my truck that I love, but it was involved in a freak accident with a refrigerator I was scrapping and now it acts up on occasion; I’d say it works fine about 90% of the time, and when it does act up it is totally useless…

My backup camera is a Clarion CC250 that’s was installed in September 2016; I would just buy another one, but this model is no longer made and Clarion doesn’t seem to make backup cameras anymore.

I do not want a wireless backup camera; It must plug directly into the back of my head unit.

    What brand do y’all recommend?

It had better be, because I really don't want to go back to H&R Radio...

I’m not saying it isn’t a bad switch. But the switch looks to operated by the same ground as the “on/off”.
All the functions on the CC Switch use the same Ground. They look to be using resistors as “communication” signals.

Since you say the Light for CC will come on, but will not set,
    Then do as @Dm93 said.
Unplug the Brake Light Switch at test it as he said above.
It’s easy to get to and test, might as well make sure that isn’t the problem.

If it’s the switch, it’s likely the “Set” function/button.
I’m sure you could unplug the switch and OHM it, but that’s something best left to your mechanic.

I could be totally wrong as well, so my best advice is print off the above diagram.
Then let your mechanic test what he feels necessary to diagnose the problem.

    Best of luck
And may the fix be easy and cheap:fingerscrossed:

Most of the time the clock spring/spiral cable is the culprit for this issue.

The clockspring is brand spanking new because the moron at the place that installed the cruise control broke it; My mechanic installed a new clockspring in either March or April, and the guts of the steering wheel have not been touched since then...
