    Yep

    it’s got pretty much everything

I haven’t done much with it yet. In typical fashion the programming software looks like it’s from the 1980s and isn’t super intuitive / documented / user friendly.

Radio is unlocked and set to proper frequency range.. finally.

also got my DMR ID. Which after wasting an hour, discovered I actually was already assigned one and didn’t know it. Completed verification while I was at it.

Just need to get my channels moved over and I’ll be set.

    Hey all,

Maybe a radio guru can help. Recently a buddy of mine said he couldnt hear me on the radio. Sure enough, when he i listened to his radio while I transmitted, all you could hear was what sounded like a whale call. The pitch of the tone changed if i extended or moved my mic. If i talked real loud, you could just barely make out a voice through the whale call tone.

throughout all this time I could receive clearly... it’s just that i cant transmit.

Im running a roof mounted firestick antenna, properly tuned. 18 ft of coax routed along the back hatch weatherstripping, and it enters the 4runner at the bottom of tge door pinched by the weatherstripping, but not tightly.

    any thoughts?

@ajmogen Put me down for CB and GMRS.

Last weekend installed the Midland MXT275. Seemed like the reviews were good so I'll give it a try.

Did a semi-permanent install, fit nice in the center console. There was a slot in the bottom of the conse under the felt big enough to run the antenna cable and power wires. So no holes were drilled. Used a fuse tap to pull power off the USB circuit (I never use those buried in the console). With the Mic extension cable I can still have the tray in the console and close the lid.

@ajmogen how did you run your antenna cable? Under the A-pillar windshield trim? Is there room for 2 under there? Now that I have a roof rack I want to move my antennas up there.

ok good to know. I dont know nothin about birthin no babies, which is what I was imagining it would be like running a cable it a big honking connector on the end.

Did you have to buy the cable separate from the ghost antenna well?

That whole setup is history now, changed it up a while ago (the version of MXT275 I got didn't do split tones and local repeaters are using that). But what your referring to, I had bought a kit from midland that included everything. It was a nice radio and they have since added the features it was lacking.

Newest version of what I did have at the time I posted here

I agree it is, but the KG1000 can monitor two channels at once. I usually have two local repeaters on. If I were to do it again I probably would buy something less expensive.

I have the study material for the HAM test just have to get off my butt and do it.
