I’m headed out to do some camping in September & have been looking at a truck tents for the trip. I’ve mostly resolved to get either a…

    1. Napier Sportz 2-man tent with a floor - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VB3W8YG?_encoding=UTF8

    or

    2. Rightline Gear 2-man tent with no floor - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FSBE7C8?_encoding=UTF8

Here’s the problem - I have a tonneau cover that I would like to keep on my truck for the trip for securing gear while traveling.

Anyone here at TW have experience with the type of set up I want to use - tonneau cover by day, truck tent by night?

I dont see why the 2nd one couldint work with the setup you speak of. One time i slept under my tonno with the tailgate down with the rest of the area covered by a tarp secured by tape and anchored to the forest floor, wont be doing that again lol.

@myn75 That’s what I’m thinking. I’m leaning toward the Rightline Gear floor-less truck tent, thinking I could just install the sides of the truck tent on top of the tonneau cover side rails, and right behind the cab the rolled up tonneau cover would end up inside the tent each night.

Idk how quick those are to install, but you could theoretically remove your tonneau cover completely, then set the tent up. Then the next day remove the tent, and place the tonneau back on. Sounds like a pain, and you lose all your cargo room in the bed just to place a tent there.

IMO I would either get a roof top tent that installed above the tonneau on separate rails $$$ (so you can have cargo room and a tent at the same time), or just ground camp. If you are doing that much work to set up a tent each night, seems simpler just to go traditional tent.

@betrayus Ground camping is my 2nd option for sure.

the rolled up tonno inside the tent doubles as an indoor table too :)
