Edit: still impressive to ride some of that terrain on 100mm travel XC bikes. Even the men are probably half my weight though.

Near Stanley Idaho on the Fisher Creek mountain bike loop. Top of the climb so must have shuttled... Too funny as this is pretty much in the middle of nowhere.

 

PSA- Thunder Mountain has Shimano 12 speed drivetrain parts in stock. Got myself a spare SLX derailleur and XT cassette.

 

Hey all,

Does anyone have a good solution for locking a bike in the truck bed?
The stock D rings are pretty thing and only take a screwdriver to remove. I liked the idea of

I’ve ridden my gravel bike more than my mountain bike this year…

 

There are a couple of steep pitches to get to the start of Fisher.

 

@neatoneto - I’ve been loving my gravel bike. I think I posted a few pics on this thread, or the other bike thread on here.

I have a Salsa Cutthroat - which, leans more towards the MTB side, but I could change the tires to fit more of a gravel/cx style as well. It’s been fun to ride!

 

That's exactly the one I've dialed down to. The only thing is the 2"+ mtb tires might be a bit much. I was looking for a 32-40mm gravel tire. Would the stock wheels handle something thinner?

Just got back from a 4 week trip, camped every night and rode a couple times a week. Highlights were Crested Butte, though getting over 11000’ on the 401 trail was tough on my senior-citizen body, Duluth (good trails and beer and lake swimming all rideable from camp), Fruita, Bellingham WA and Sandy Ridge OR. Also rode the WoW trail outside Park City but honestly the climb-descend balance didn’t thrill me. Another trail that was good to ride but had some heat/bugs/cow poop downsides was Buffalo Gap in North Dakota. Beautiful terrain though. Also beautiful was the Timothy Lake loop in Oregon; not technical but fun and often narrow and swoops, and did I say beautiful?

Got my first ride in on the Dissector (3C Maxxterra) as a rear tire. It replaced a fairly worn dual compound DHR2. First impressions are it is *very* loose compared to the DHR2. I figured it would be a looser tire overall, but I sort of expected it to be similar if not a bit more grippy initially when comparing a new 3C tire to an old worn dual compound tire. Slides were unexpected at first but came on gradually and were fairly controlled, though the bike did end up on it's side once. It will take some getting used too. It did seem to roll nice, but I was on pretty rooty twisty stuff mainly so hard to get a good speed evaluation.

Yes, the wheel set allows for 35mm, if you wanted to go skinny, but the optimal size starts at 42mm - here’s a link to what WTB recommends for the i25 wheels.

My plan is to get a second wheel set and run somewhere around 35mm or so, for an easy switch out based on what I’ll be riding.

But, I will say, running the Teravail tires on road is pretty easy. I can ride at a good speed, maybe keep up with my road buddies, not lead out, but could keep up with them. And they have handled single track dirt and some chunk fairly well. Not sure what you are looking to ride but it’s been a fun bike to ride since I got it last month.

Even dry I wasn’t crazy about some of the trail surface and in fact was surprised by how dry it was. Not the coastal PNW stereotype. Sandy Ridge which is further inland, in Oregon, was loamier. That picture from Bellingham was on Double Diamond, but we bailed before the start of Double Down and rode Fragrance Lake and Two Dollar, starting and finishing at the Larrabee Campground. But we’re old and slow riders. 2200’ in 10 miles was a good workout; and I thought Santa Cruz had a lot of climbing from sea level. And your trails are legal.

 

Well my knee is feeling better, haven’t tested it on bike yet, and kinda don’t want to it’s been so long. Not that I don’t want to ride, but feels like 102 even though it’s only 94 with 65%.

My knee isn’t 100% I can feel slight throbbing however I can’t remember last time I had zero discomfort
