Hey guys. Looking to replace my third brake light with a smoke lens and LED lights. I seem to find conflicting information regarding the installation if it’s difficult or not. Are most of these lights just plug and play? I don’t want to have to splice anything.

    I’m looking at this one:

    https://www.amazon.com/1995-2015-Toyota-Tacoma-Center-Electroplate/dp/B07GYTLGQ2

If there’s one you’d recommend instead please let me know.

Make sure your present light has screws that are exposed.
If not you have to remove the headliner to access the screws from inside cab.

I'd also get a new foam gasket from your parts dealer before taking it apart. When I removed mine it tore the gasket and it couldn't be reused. I was in a pince to get it back in so I used some RTV as glue/sealant and reused the old gasket. It worked, but definitely not the right way to go if you plan ahead.

I liked mine when it was new. Install was easy.

But pretty quickly it turned sun faded yellow even though I applied a UV protectant

    MESO Customs makes a housing
but it appears out of stock now, and I'm not sure when it would become in stock
If it's any indication, any time I've checked availability on the dual-color overhead map lights, those too have been out of stock for a year

In my case with a topper usually behind it I'm not sure if it would be worth it due to not being seen/visible at that point, considering the cost
    -housing
-light units to put inside of it

seems like it could have it's benefits though
potential ability to add chase light(s) to be seen in cloud of dust, that the stock lights don't really offer

Replaced mine a few years back and a new adhesive backed foam gasket was included. Plug & Play and no leaks.

Looks good and sounds like it should hold up well over the years with the 3M.
    Where’d you get that one?
