Has anybody done a ignition key with the fob built on to the end like lots of the new vehicles. Looking for a aftermarket one that will work. maybe just install the electrical part and have the key cut. I think there is a L on the key part and the fob says CG43VT20T on it. Like the photo attached

It's for my new 2006 Tacoma. I am trying to remember how to edit my vehicles right now.

I have a 2011 tacoma doublcab. Here is what I did and works great:

Purchased this key on Ebay. It was uncut originally. This key cannot be programmed by itself to work the ignition. Did the keyfob programming steps which can be found in the forums on this site and involves funny process of opening/closing doors and inserting/removing key. After remote fob programming, all buttons work except the trunk button which does nothing when pressed.

    upload_2021-8-8_8-42-53.jpg

I didn't want to sacrifice any of my factory keys so I also purchased one of these from Ebay:

    upload_2021-8-8_8-44-47.jpg

This key needs to be the exact model your your year and ignition.
I then took both keys to a locksmith's shop where he cut both keys using one of my factory keys as the guide. He then added the purchased key with the chip in it to the trucks programming so it would work the ignition and start the car. The locksmith had some software on a laptop to do the programming. Not sure what he used.
Total cost for programming and cutting both keys = $75

I then carefully cut out the small chip from the newly programmed key and placed inside the all-in-one key.

The all-in-one now works just like a factory key and has the remote fob functionality.

    Total cost was about ~$100

I will also mention the new all-in-one key has about twice the range over the factory fob. It works great.

Where is the chip located in the key. Would be nice to know so that it isn't damaged while trying focus it out.

Man.....a key like that in your pocket would tend to be a "jimmy" stabber every time you sit down.

I think I watched a youtube video or some images of where the chip is exactly in the black material before I started to dig it out. I used a drill to get close then made small cuts with an exacto knife to get the chip out.

The material was tough and took some time to get the chip out carefully.

Yes its bulky but not as bulky as the factory key plus the fob. My goal was to reduce the bulk of my keyring and this worked and has not "stabbed" me yet.

I bet a fob from a 1st gen Yaris LB (hatch) would work. It doesn't have the trunk release button.

Keys and fobs and what not on the key ring have become very pocket unfriendly.

I've succumbed to carrying my keyring crap on a carabiner attached to my belt.

The motorcycle key lives by itself. Don't want all the crap dangling on the instrument cluster.

Well got my key fob today. Took out inside of old fob and put in the new style fob. Apparently my Tacoma doesn't have a chip. But if yours does there is a small area in the new fob where it fits in. Had the local Ace Hardware cut the key for me ($3.89) they even gave me a extra cut key. So far it works perfect. Nice to have it just flip open...

I did the same thing, but, used one of the factory keys, which was effectively ruined removing the chip. I then used a dab of silicone to secure the chip in the new FOB. My FOB looks like the FOB in post #12 (no trunk button)

I purchased a 3 button key from Amazon - https://amzn.to/3jjEJBt - but can't get it to program with my 2014 Tacoma. Since the key you bought works for locking / unlocking the doors, can you please provide a link to the key, or let us know which Toyota models are compatible? I've been looking for an integrated key/remote, but when I search for 2014 Tacoma, all that comes up is the separate remotes. My key isn't chipped, and my truck doesn't have an alarm, so all I want is the lock/unlock in the key head

The red light on the key head blinks when I press the buttons, and I'm sitting inside my truck.

It's so frustrating I haven't been able to find any cross reference of what remotes work with which model Tacomas and other Toyotas to find something compatible
