Switchback DRL/front directionals

Umm. Your list has several items including a sonicare toothbrush ( I do recommend, I use one) the hunt for red October is a great movie as well.

all joking aside. I’m not too familiar with the generic bulb, could be okay, could be junk. I would look up VLED switchback bulbs. If that’s what you’re wanting.

are you just looking for a cheap quick solution or open to upgrading your headlights? There are quality harness kits from great TW members if you’re Interested.

So far this experiment has been a fail. The LED lights came today and I installed one to see how they worked. Good news, no hyperflash. Boy are they bright. Bad news, the white DRL light only comes on when I turn on the headlights. So, they are really parking/directional lights and only when the headlights are on. If the headlights are off, then the amber portion comes on as DRL/directional, no white.

I don't know enough about the CANBUS to know if that's a programming issue in the light or in the truck. I looked at a different brand, but based on a review by another 2019 Tacoma owner it's the same thing. Both of those lights had built in resisters and I'm not all that eager to buy ones that need external resisters wired in.

For now, I'm just going to look for brighter regular bulbs.

 

The SR5 integrates the DRL and turn signal in to one wire, so a cheap switchback bulb won't work. I'm using Diode Dynamics switchbacks in my headlight retrofit, but they come with separate wires to control the white and amber colors.
If you don't want to do a retrofit, you could get the VLEDs switchbacks which come with a separate controller.

 

Thank you. That's good information. I suppose it makes sense to Toyota to integrate the DRL/Directional function in one bulb although it's confusing to me why they make so many options for what should be a simple function.

I'll look into both options you mention, although the Diode Dynamics unit might entail more rewiring than I'm interested in doing.

 

The diode dynamics aren't just bulbs, they're wither halos or LED strips. You'd have to open your headlights and install them. The VLEDs are just simple bulb replacements with an external controller.
