I just got my first ever tacoma, 2021 SR v6 4x4 acess cab.
I've been looking into installing the bed lights near the tailgate. From the videos i looked at its very easy to install on 2020s and up.

Now what my question is, how would this work for my truck considering its package and model? I dont have the OEM cargo light switch next to the stearing wheel.

If i went ahead and installed the lights without a switch, how would it work. Will it not work at all? Will it work with my door unlock lights? Or my automatic daytime/night time lights?

And if i were to attempt to install a switch. Would it be just as easy to install like the lights? Or turn out being a project like all of the videos i watched on older model trucks?

Any insight or help would be appreciated.

No the lights will not work without the relay and switch installed.

Being that you have a 2021 the complete install is plug'n'play and can be installed in under an hour.

The missing switch can be substituted and the relay is most likely installed. Only one way to know is to take a peek.

Thanks for the replies. That helped alot. Any one have a link for a switch that I can get that'll work?
I've got the lights I want. Just can't seem to find a decent switch.

OP, a jumper wire on the missing switch connector (5 & 9) would have the circuit ON at the DOOR feature. It would also include at Unlock/Lock.

If you wanted to maintain the circuit ON after the doors are closed, then a pin switch on the tailgate in parallel with a door open wire. One small gauge wire (loomed & secured) to the tailgate and the nearest/easiest tap is on the same connector that supplies the power to the bed lights.

Arrows point to wire to tap the tailgate pin switch.
IE1 is behind the Driver's Kick Panel.
