    Hello
This is my first trip to the UP and I admit we are planning late (just got my RTT). Does anyone have any advice for camping the UP with an RTT? I can make campground reservations still , but looking for a little more space between me and the RV w A/C blasting next to me.
I have searched this subforum but didn't find anything so if there is a previous post shame on me.

    Thanks in advance.

UP is the opposite of DOWN.

Just kidding, he means Michigan Upper Peninsula.

Thanks - in your estimate, if heading up the week including July 4, do I need campground reservations just in case? We will eventually be around Mackinac Island but hope to check out as much territory as possible.

Where are you looking to camp? There are hundreds of places to camp in the UP. Quite a few state parks that are always crowded, then there are others that are first come first serve, and others you need to book on recreation.gov

I've camped all over the UP and my favorite are still the Porcupine Mountains. I want to explore Munising more.

absolutely not, assuming you are fine with true primitive camping (no toilets, no running water, no fire pits, etc)
there is so much state forest ground you will 100% find plenty of suitable places to camp you will not need any reservations.
especially if you aren't ground tenting it, you can get away with moist ground pretty easily

I am still planning the trip - all I know is spend a day in Mackinac Island and move on dt crowds. Thanks for the suggestions and looking for any other suggestions you may have.

Thank you again for the advice - we are definitely looking for primitive and hopefully isolated to some degree. Note I am not sure my wife is quite informed of how primitive we are going to be, but after 25 years of marriage I dont think she is going anywhere :) Plus she has many a day spent in backcountry so she'll be good.

Mac Island is always packed, especially during holidays. We really enjoyed our stay at Wilderness State Park. We only tent camp and had a great spot on the first loop. I believe it was campsite AA or something like that. Tahquamenon Falls area is nice too. The north campground is very close quarters and loud / noisy with kids. If you have kids it's great. The south campground is less noisy, but not secluded.

This might be your friend to find a remote site - https://www2.dnr.state.mi.us/parksandtrails/Default.aspx#map-tab

Tons of dispersed camping in the Keweenaw. Check out the trails off cliff drive, lots of camping spots only accessible by a 4x4. Nothing too crazy but still would need a capable vehicle. My buddy pulled a pop-up camper behind his stock GMC 1500 to the top with no troubles if that gives you an idea.

The UP is where Yoopers live. (ALT Yuper)

What's a Yooper you ask? Google the Red Green Show and watch a few episodes. (The Red Green Show is technically in the "Wilds of Canada", but it's about the same)

The UP has all sorts of natural attractions. This one is my favorite. Better than a Tacoma. It is located at Da Yoopers Tourist Trap:

If you visit the UP, you'll know when you meet a real Yooper. You won't have a clue what they are saying. o_O

Hey, I'm not knocking it. It's part of the regional charm which is disappearing all over this great land. I miss those days long gone by when I would travel to the deep south on a car trip and folks spoke with a heavy southern accent and I looked forward to eating hush puppies and grits.

But seriously though, I've bumped into folks on the Keweenaw Peninsula who talk like their from a different planet!
