Rodent damage

Just wonder how many got an email from geico telling them their tacoma is at risk for rodent damage, and how to prevent rodent damage to their trucks. Some interesting tips...one saying to go to honda, buy their rodent resistant tape, and wrap your tacoma wire harness's with it.

 

I didn't get anything but I also don't check that stuff or read those emails or letters

 

You can get the rodent tape on Amazon. We use it at the dealership quite a bit.

 

They list the usual tips with cayenne pepper, and peppermint oils. I guess their tired of paying out claims that are totally preventable.

 

What a coincidence. I damaged a rodent just this morning. Ran right over that sucka.

 

I didn’t get anything from State Farm, however a year ago a rat ate some wiring under the dash of a car I had parked next to my house. I fixed the damage and hired a pest control service which set-up three traps around my yard and maintains them. I’ve not had a problem since. I check my Taco regularly for damage. In my case they think it’s the citrus trees in my yard which is attracting them.

 

I have my comprehensive deductible on $100 for this, the windshield and the catalytic converters (and mouse killer in the garage).

I live in the bush and the little SOB are everywhere. They never did any damage to the wiring on any of my vehicles but they do chew holes in the cabin filter and any other soft stuff like insulation etc. I have installed those electric plug in mice Ulrasonic Pest Chaser Repellent in my garage and they work great to keep them out and off my side x side and my Kioti compact tractor. I also have some of those Repellents in my studio to keep them out of the drum room. In the house I have traps cause those electric Repellents don't work that well if there is anything blocking them but the garage is all open and so is the studio. but they are a pain to have around just their way of life.

 

Had a rabbit eat the wiring under my company car last year. Tech advised that they have seen an uptick in this over the last 5-10 years as manufacturers have moved to soy based wire loom. Protect the environment from plastics and feed the animals, keeping the tree huggers and PITA happy.

When they replaced the harness they wrapped the rodent repellent tape, he said pepper laced, around the loom in lower exposed areas. Never heard of any of this until last year. Just figured rodents were always an issue, didn’t realize OEMs made it more enticing.
