2022 Tundra?!?

Saw this on FB. Guy said they just rolled off the cargo ship. Thoughts?

Looks like a big Tacoma? At least it comes with a flat screen lol. Seriously I might wait a few years for any kinks to be worked out and better than 11 mpg. Surely the price will be 65k

They're being built in Texas so I'm not sure why that would have come from a cargo ship.

In my opinion the interior isn't terrible but the exterior is ugly as sin. Although, to be fair, I haven't ever really liked the design of any of the Tundras.

God awfully ugly if you ask me. I was REALLY hoping the new Tundra would be esthetically pleasing but Toyota failed miserably. The front end alone is an embarrassment. I was looking to trade my 2010 in for one but I guess I'll keep it until the NEXT generation rolls out in 2030ish.

So disappointing.

 

Thoughts: Tundra Denali is the first thing that comes to mind. The shorter cab looks like a Ram quad cab or a GM. The screen is huge, I like that there is less silver plastic than the current Tundra, but that screen is huge. Shiny new trucks always look good.

Whats going on with that rear bumper?

Between the talights and wheels I think it looks like a rotary phone.

What up with so many vehicles now a days with plastic trim around/along the wheel wells? It looks tacky and cheap. It’s like that on many trucks and suvs. Maybe there is a reason I’m missing but I’d rather have just the metal continue how it is now on the Tundra.

 

That is interesting about the cargo ship I mean hell there's a cargo ship right behind it in the pics. Maybe these were shipped over for testing and now they are just returning.

As for the looks of it, I think we need to see more and in person. I don't really think it looks game changing or anything better than the other makers out there but the double cab looks like a chevy or gmc extended cab/double cab. They don't really show the CrewMax all that well except for the rear half. I am definitely not a fan of that rear bumper. The interior actually looks promising though and also more simple than the RAM and FORD's. I'm betting these will be on display at the state fair in a couple weekends. Also saw that air suspension will be an option so that's cool.

 

I know that in the midwest where they salt the roads that is the first part of the truck that starts to rust just above the wheel wells so I'm guessing that has something to do with it.

 

Was kinda hoping Toyota would jump in on the carpet lined wheel wells. Those are awesome and very easy to clean. GM has them on their trucks and I think Ford does too for the front at least.

 

It’s almost as if they ripped off the GM exterior, and Ford interior. That huge screen looks awesome, but I’m not sure if I’d get tired of it long term.

 

Damn what did they put inside, a Samsung 65 inch screen?

 

Colour matched fill plates under the headlights would make it look less GM-egregious. I forget who did the colour matched spacers underneath the third gen Tacoma lights but it really completed the look for me.

 

I, personally, really don't mind the look. They're never going to please everyone (I personally know people who loathe the current tundy). As for ground clearance and chrome, you can see in the pic its clearly a Limited so that answers your questions right there. I don't like the cab proportions of the access cab, (though I do appreciate the actual door handle instead of the lump handle on current gen). I wish they had some better shots of the CMAX that pulled up right afterward, I think it looks a little more rounded for the size of the truck. I don't know. I can see people's reservations about it but it remains to be seen how it performs. I at least am willing to give it a try - but if not, ill have a current model instead.

 

Do I see a heated steering wheel ? If so , I will be buying one of these .
If the steering wheel is not heated ....No sale .

Often new body designs take a while to grow on me. I'm more interested in the drive train, towing and hauling specs. If they are where I want them I can learn to live with the looks.
