I'm about to do a fluid change on my trans, just to see how the fluid looks at 92,500 miles. I was also going to do fluid changes to my Differentials and Transfer Case. I bought the washers another person on these forums recommended, but turns out it didn't come with enough washers for every plug. If anybody sees this, do you think I can get by reusing my washers on the transmission fill and drain plugs?

    Good grief......

Just hop over to the local Toyota dealer. Get the parts. You'll probably spend a huge sum less than $5 for all of them.

Yeah, I guess so. The dealer’s just far away like over an hour. I’ll see how the washers look

There's a fill plug at the top of the trans, I've never replaced that crush washer along with one or two others. I probably got the same washer kit and as you, and no leaks ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You can “get by” but you should really change them out. Why take the chance on a leak.

Parts houses carry aluminum and copper crush washers in stock. Do you have anyone near you to visit?

Yeah. The Amazon set doesn't include one for either the MT or T case. Can't remember. What I did was take a good look at the ones that were there from the factory and save them. For me, they all appeared reusable.

I know that with copper ones, you can heat them to anneal them, but I never had problems in the past when using the recommended torque.

SSO hybrid bumper, Warn winch, RCI skid trilogy, RRW sliders, everything in the cheap/free mods thread, and of course the frame recall work.
If you are asking the question it is either to get people to confirm what you already want to hear about reusing them, or to hear that you should postpone the work until you have the right parts. It's a $40,000+ truck, having a once every two to four years maintenance done, and you're asking to skimp on a $1 washer because it's inconvenient to get it. It's your truck, do as you want - but I always replace them - they crush to conform at the time of torquing to seal the area; re-use is not recommended.

Dont forget a pan gasket ????????????
Take a bunch of pictures . Do a write up with your pan removed . Show the magnets and screen removed in your pictures
Nobody at Tacoma World has done a pan off write up on a third gen with pictures that I know of .
Your post will be well liked
    Tacoma World needs this
Although this is a link for a second gen transmission service , read how the guy did it properly , then follow his instruction when you do yours .

I've found you can flip the washers and use for a 2nd time.

You can also use these guys. They ship free with prime and it takes 3 days.

    https://www.amazon.com/stores/page/...365e-724b-4c0c-b0f1-4515c0276ecb&ref_=ast_bln

You'll need one of these for the front diff drain plug.

Please don't take offense to this man but have you ever done it ? I've had crush washers last the length of the vehicle . Just don't crank the piss out of it . You'll be fine and save a ton of headaches searching for stuff you don't need . Do the job then inspect later if you have one drip of oil on the bolt and that bothers you than change one of them OP . Keep those in the truck cause chances are you'll lose them before you need them .
I'm at 108k mi and done all my fluids. Not a drop yet .

You asking if I’ve ever changed the tranny fluid? Yes. Also both diffs, transfer case, and engine oil.

Here’s my perspective: getting new crush washers is easy. So why not just do it, they’re a consumable. Sure, you will more often then not be ok reusing the old ones. But why risk it? And the argument that “I did it and I’m fine” never holds water because it’s a sample size of 1.

Glad it worked out for you, but my recommendation stays the same. Crush washers are designed for single use.

I do not understand why people sometimes advocate so hard against doing something so easy.

There's been a few who have dropped the pan...

Pan drop; not exactly a write up.

I respect your logic and it's ultimately up to the owner but considering I never over torque and have never taken a car in for a fluid change and been fine I'll stick with what I know. I have bought a few over the years on older 60's cars when converting them to magnetic plugs or replacing pans. The only reason I felt like I should say something was I felt the OP was beating himself up over it when he already has enough to do the job . Maybe not every one but the only one that may be over torqued is probably the oil pan .

I'd save the gas rather than drive to the dealer and wait in line .

If I’d already done the job and reused the washers for some reason, I’d probably just let it ride until the next change. For the tranny though maybe that’s never, depending. In which case at some point, no rush, I’d probably go ahead and do another fluid change just to install new washers.

I order all those washers on Amazon now, no need for a trip to the dealer.

Op, like i said before, you’ll be fine to reuse the washers. I do always clean and inspect them then try to put them back on the plug the same way it came off. The differential drain plugs are copper. They a soft and will conform to the machined surface areas each time the are tightened. Ive changed every ounce of oil in my truck many times. The only washer i replace from time to time is the engine oil pan washer because its a different material. But even then i reuse them multiple oil changes. If you do have a leak from a drain bolt it will be a extremely slow leak and might not even drip. Try to snug it up a hair more and if that doesn't fix it. Grab another washer and do it all over again. Very unlikely though. Not the end of the world like some people here make it sound.
