Flagpole and Meadow Knobs

I've been to Flagpole a few times but it's been a while since I've been to Meadow Knob, so help me remember.

What is the road like between Flagpole and Meadow Knobs? What I'm getting at is, is it something I could safely navigate myself or would be be a better idea to travel in a group in case I would get in trouble?

I'm sure you could get it down to meadow.

Getting that out of there would be a different story entirely

I think you could get out of there with some skinny pedal applied, if it was dry.

You could always park the trailer up top and see how it goes for your truck. Then gauge it from there.

I know I wouldnt take that trailer down there. But you may have some other idea on how to do it

 

Well, that's sort of the whole point; to go camping. With the trailer.

FWIW, I towed that motherpuppy to the top of Imogene Pass in Colorado this past July. If I can get there, you'd think Meadow Knob wouldn't be that difficult.

 

i went up union springs road up to meadow knob in a completely stock taco. didn't slip once. we turned around at meadow knob though and went back down union springs. i think it's easily doable with that trailer.

 

Where you towing a trailer and was it wet?

And if you turned around at meadow and didnt go past, you missed the most "difficult" part of union spring

 

You should just go do it. Enjoy.

 

yea, i know, which is why we turned around. my friend already had one flat tire and we had no spares left. it was pretty dry. but if your truck can make it the trailer should too. didn't see anything too tight.

 

Planning a summer solo trip to get out of town with my taco. I've been eyeballing Flagpole knob.

Is it doable for a solo trip with a mostly stock truck and basic recovery gear? Is there any trail section that's less varsity...or somewhere I should go checkout? Or sections you'd think I'd have to be crazy to try by myself in a stock rig?

I've driven to Flagpole via the entrance off Rt. 33 near Switzer Lake, but how do you get to the Union Springs entrance?

 

The common start point is at the Union Springs reservoir/Hollow lake. many go ahead and air down there, or a little further in.
