My uncle has a build for his custom water tank somewhere in the depths of the fj cruiser forum (his user is nevadaesh there). He got a plastic welder and built it to fit his space exactly, with pumps and plumbing behind body panels. One thing I really liked was his use of a couple large screw lid openings so they could easily reach in and clean. No vendors seem to do this.

Is that a custom built tank? I can't seem to find it on their site.

I actually have a long-bed, so plenty of room to fit a bigger tank that's wider than the wheel wells. I do like the design and the metal brackets to mount it in place.

Yeah, it's custom. They had a mold made and have sold quite a few of them based on what I know, but they don't offer it via online. You would have to call & order it from them. I also wasn't thinking about a LB layout and the fact you can go bed side to bed side in front of the wheel wells. You probably could easily fit some of those other tanks most likely. I was always stuck with the width between the wheel wells on mine.

I got a 14-gallon here. If you can't find one to fit from this list you probably aren't going to. I got the 8" top port for cleaning. Bought some SST tie downs bolted into Rivnuts and secured with a nylon strap. UPDATED LINK (forgot I bought from NTO)-website allows you to sort by any dimension...

I forgot I finally wound up buying from National Tank Outlet due to their options. Updated the link in my post above. I got the 8-inch black inspection lid and the standard fitting package. If I did it again I would drill my own fittings with these...

So I’ve been going back in forth on how to insulate the bed. What do you guys think is the best option? A bed rug? I realize the reflectix to be effective needs an air gap?

looking for any recommendations before I spend the money on stuff

    Just the basics
I've got a bedrug and really like it. Should the time come where I get a Vagabond I'll still keep the bedrug.

Has anyone installed the Overland Vehicle Systems 180° awning? I liked the Rhino Rack 270° I had before but didnt love it.

What email address are you using? Did you just respond to the final invoice email?

I have an OVS 270 and love it. Looks quite similar to the 180...

They only made one option when I bought it, I think it was called the nomad. It wraps around to the front as well as around back, which is honestly just extra work to set up and break down.

I installed it and the VO brackets myself.

Not sure if this is where I should be asking - is the 48" width measurement of the bed platform from tent-wall-to-tent-wall?

In other words is a 50" wide mattress like a Big Agnes Aircore Double (which has round vertical beams on the sides) be much too snug deforming the tent wall fabric?

Only reason I inquire is in case we don't find the stock foam mattress our cup of tea.

I installed a bed rug and crafted my build on top of it. I do a lot of winter camping, and this makes a huge difference. It isn’t alit of insulation, but better than reflected, I suspect.

The Drifter is a unique genius design in which the bed does not really touch the tent. The bed is installed lower than the tent and has and air channel on either side. If you were willing to sacrifice the air channel (think mold buildup without a way to dry) you might be able to squeeze a larger mattress in, since it doesn’t tough the tent.

FWIW, I like having the space on either side (the "air channel" MapJunkie mentioned) because I can spread my blankets nice and flat across the top of the bed and tuck all the excess into that space, allowing me to easily close the top with the blankets in place. Wouldn't be possible with a wider mattress.

How much space does the air-channel amount to? 2"
If so my 50" double wide will fit nicely.

    Your 50" will fit fine.
