Evening everyone. I am expecting my SSO slimline hybrid tube bumper in the next few weeks. I have already picked up a winch but I was curious what controller box relocation examples might be out there? Any bracket examples? Etc?

I’m in the same boat. My warn winch will be coming in next week.

edit: just noticed this post is 6 months old. I’m trying to look through some of the archived threads for the answer.

I just used this bracket (with my SSO)

    https://www.strutmasters.com/produc...TYKBtJ-GJzr2KAhQhvfRlZeCJJUyDZJAaAhOBEALw_wcB

But instead of mounting both legs of the bracket to the winch, I only attached 1 leg, which shifted the control pack towards the back of the truck, clearing the radiator supports.

    If that makes sense...

I relocated the winch controller box up onto a bracket next to the fuse box. I use welding wire and I think it turned out well.

As I am prepping for the install with a warn winch, I have been looking at a lot of different installs.

I’m glad I found this today where an SSO installer shows you how to cut and bend the support bracket so you don’t have to remove the warn control pack or remove the bracket.

I was planning on locating mine like Classy Tacos did in his videos but now I think I will keep the control pack on top center of winch and just do this recommend

    Go wireless.
Once I did the only resaon I'd ever need the box is if the wireless system were to fail. Makes for safer pulls too, IMO.

Don’t you still need to pop the hood to access the clutch handle with those bumpers?

You have to have the controller box. And the Warn controller is wireless. It’s just whether or not you can leave it on the top center or relocate because of space

I used some 0.100" thick aluminum sheet to make a bracket for my Warn Zeon 10S control. It mounts to the bumper support in the front and radiator support in the rear.

Also if you're looking for wireless control look at the Warn Wireless hub. It's a bluetooth adapter with a phone app, works excellent.

Sorry only picture I have, but hope it helps give an idea

I’m not sure why everyone is responding to my post about wireless. Warn VR EVO winches come with a wireless control. It can be used wired or wireless

The issue is the location of the control pack on the top center of the Warn winch and the grill brace on the truck.

Makes for easy on/off of the wireless. The winch positioningin the sso bumepr probably isnt too far off. This worked out will all the supplied lengths with the smittybilt

You only say "warn winch" and not all their winches have wireless remotes. So I gave a mounting option and just made mention of the wireless module. Not everyone knows it's available and is nice option if the control pack is buried with limited acess.

    Gotcha…...

I was mainly focused on the fact you can leave the warn control pack mounted to the winch and do what SSO shows in this video.
    A much better solution IMHO.
Keep the factory Tacoma bracket, bend a portion of it out of the way with a short cut, and the warn winch and control pack can stay on top center of the winch easily accessible wired or wireless

Im going with a winch mounted when needed on front hitch to be used as needed. Great info. though.

So to clear the Warn winch I followed the SSO latest instructions where they discuss clearing the solenoid box and just leaving it mounted to the winch.

I was able to cut the sheet metal with some Wiss snips and then just use some wiss hand seamers to bed it toward the driver side to box it in. Loses no rigidity that I can tell and should provide the 1.5 inch clearance needed for the solenoid pack.

I then added a couple pieces of the left over edge guard for the sharp edge

I’ll let ya know how it goes when I mount the winch tomorrow
