Hey guys! I am building a 06 Superduty Dana 60 that I plan on swapping in to my rig. I have been reading through the threads here but I can't seem to find any info on 3 link kits using trusses. Can I get some guidance with this? I'll provide the info I have so you can see I am trying.

So with this Dana 60 you need to cut 2" off the tube casting on the diff side to be able to weld on the tube. (I added lots of pics to this thread so you guy's don't need to click a lot of links)

    Capture.jpg

As I stated, I want to truss it after I do this for strength reasons. I have been looking at multiple Truss kits:

    https://www.barnes4wd.com/PRO-SERIES-Ford-Superduty-Dana-60-Flat-Top-Truss_p_1136.html
    [IMG]

    https://www.barnes4wd.com/PRO-SERIES-Ford-Superduty-Dana-60-Low-Profile-Truss_p_1114.html
    [IMG]

    https://www.artecindustries.com/lpftruss-sd60
    [IMG]

^ some examples. As you can see they are all pretty similar and all go across the axle (obviously). Now that's great, but what do I do about 3 link kits?

Most the kits I see weld to the round tube:

    https://www.barnes4wd.com/Enduro-Joint-3-Link-Suspension-Kit_p_556.html
    [IMG]

    https://www.artecindustries.com/3link-kitg
    [IMG]

The only kit I found that may work is the Artec Kit F:

    https://www.artecindustries.com/3link-kitf
    [IMG]

Even using an Artec Truss with their 3 link kit it doesn't completely work. With an 05+ axle truss some modification is required to the track bar mount.

Now I could probably get something like this:

    https://www.artecindustries.com/lowerftruss-sd
    [IMG]

with any generic 3 link kit but I hate how much ground clearance I would loose.

I would really like to use a Barnes truss because I can get a nice discount through some buddies. Unfortunately they don't appear to offer any 3 link kits to use with their trusses. I also see a lot of trusses with link mounts pre installed but they all seem to be for Jeeps; I know I am gonna need a custom 3 link kit to get the angles and what not right.

So what would you guys do? I don't think I'm the only person with this issue. Is their another brand that makes links and trusses that are compatible or should I just try to piece it together? I could also go completely home made but I was hoping for something a little more... R & D'd then what I could come up with. :D Thanks guys!

It's in the plan to go full hydro eventually but isn't a huge priority for me at the moment. Unless you think it would be dumb to not just go for it at the beginning.

So I would not weld on a truss that you need to cut off again to install something else. I went full in on my steering. To run a full hydro and make it last, the truss needs to be beef.

The kits are spendy, but if you look and piece mail the required parts it could be cheaper. Aluminum links through wide open design are the shit...fyi.

Another thing is you don’t have to mount the top link on the top of the truss. I mounted mine to the back to get the geometry right.

Some Trusses have the option for a hydro mount, so all your need to do is weld it to your existing truss. But yeah good point if I go with something that's not offered on.

I've heard it limits flex significantly. I was consider it but it's too late, radius arm mounts are gone unfortunately.

Then you wouldn't lose out by going with a truss system like that. I would also buy the extra full hydro mount at the same time for future use.

Ah no worries. You can get full articulation from radius arms. They just don’t allow the fine tuning a 3-link does.

I think you're getting too hung up on a "kit". There isn't anything to my knowledge that is going to be perfect and come with instructions (if that's what you're after). Everything will have to be modified for your specific setup. If you get a good discount from barnes, buy their stuff and some way to cut things and make it happen cap'n.

There's some good points and ideas, but in the end you're going to have to figure out where everything needs to go. Nobody can do that for you (unless you're paying them lol).

Personally, I would go low profile truss so that you won't be limited on your link spacing. The generic 3 link has more than enough material on the link towers that you can cut to fit whatever and wherever you need.

I hope this helps in making a decision.

I really don't care if it has instructions, I just wanna make sure I have all the parts I'm gonna needs. I'm really thinking that buying a generic kit will be the best option. It won't hurt much to cut up the parts and modify them for what I need. I was just hoping their was something a little more plug and play but at this point if it works it works.

I guess 4wu would be as close as you're gonna get. When I bought mine, I waited until there was a sale from ruff stuff. After I looked everything over and started messing with it all, I said fuck this and went back to leafs lol
