My first Toyota a few questions

Hello everyone, first off great site I have been doing lots of reading since I stumbled upon this site last night. I ordered a 2011 Tacoma TRD sport double cab automatic V6 4.0L truck yesterday all TRD accessories and free blutooth (i refused to sign until he included it in the deal). I will be picking the truck up on Feb 26 2011.
I have one major concern I overlooked when I ordered the truck...no tailgate lock..this to me poses a problem since I was planning on a tonneau cover to keep my tools in my bed but without the tailgate locking i have no security. I have been reading mixed review about the pop lock and was thinking of combining it with the BAKflip G2, the other option was the rollnlock. If i have to I will resort to a toolbox in the back I really want to save that as an absolute last resort, only because of the improved fuel economy that comes with a tonneau from what I have read.

My question to the community is there any other tonneau cover that locks and will secure my cargo and tailgate without a aftermarket tailgate lock other then rollnlock? I am asking because the price is a little steep and I would like to avoid drilling screws because the vehicle is leased. I want something reliable, and by the sounds of it the poplock pl5300 isnt exactly a reliable system although combined with a bakflipg2 it will be easier on the pocket book.

I have the pop & Loc on my 05 Tacoma tailgate and not one problem with it

 

Yo welcome to TW,
you could look into a fibreglass cover like snug top or gaylord. I got a gaylord on mine and it lips over the tailgate edge.

 

Undercover tonneau cover

 

I have a Fold A Cover hard cover and a Pop and Lock and I've never had a problem with it.

 

The other way to go for a tailgate lock is the Dynolock. It's electric and simple to install with a tap into the truck door locks wiring. Then the tailgate locks and unlocks with the key fob (or aftermarket alarm system if you add one) along with the door locks. There are many threads here that describe the install with pictures. It is widely avaliable... just Google "dynolock tailgate".

I think TW is about evenly split on PopNLocks and Dynolocks, and one poster even fabbed up a homebrew dynolock.

thanks for the help everyone, I would like to stay away from solid covers, only because I need full use of my box also. I am pricing out roll n locks which is ideally what I want to get, the idea of an electric lock that locks with the fob sounds really neat, I am going to look into that
