I currently own a Tacoma, but thinking of getting a bigger truck so that I can tow a decent size camper behind it some day. For those of you who tow campers with a Tundra, what size camper do you have? Or how big of a camper might I expect to pull with a Tundra. Would 5th wheelers be an option?

If you put a fifth wheel behind a tundra let me know so I can be behind you instead of in front of you as you come barreling down a hill and can’t stop or lose control of it and send it sideways on the highway. I’d rather be behind so I can slow down and stop in time rather than be flattened like Wil E Coyote!

the tundras are capable. Not THAT capable.

That is what I thought, but don't really know what their limits are.

But it sounds like you want a mobile mansion, so I'm not help in the 5th wheel domain.

Obviously your not going to tow a 40ft 5th wheel. They make some smaller 5th wheels that are made for 1/2 ton trucks. Tundra would tow a 5th wheel nicely as long gas you can keep the weight down. I would try to keep it under 9k lbs

Any updates? Curious because I'm making the switch to a Tundra soon so I can tow a descent size trailer...

Haven't decided, but leaning towards going with a Ford 250. Never owned a Ford, but seeing a lot hauling campers. I used to be GM man, but was always having to replace parts.

Im also looking to buy a 1/2 Ton and the tundra are hard to find in my price range. I just sold my 2013 Tacoma to upgrade because I bought a travel trailer myself.

I wouldn't do a 5th wheel in my tundra. Personally I feel I wouldn't go above 8k. I recently did about 5500lbs give or take (3500 lbs truck plus crap in bed, 20s on gmc that are heavier and 2k lbs trailer guestimate) for over 1000 miles and while it did fine, I think a couple thousand over that would be the limit. Braking will be the limiting factor. I wouldn't drop 10k on it even though it's rated for it.20210703_190727.jpg

Might post on tundras.com, there's TONS of towing threads over there plenty of them will be happy to weigh in on more towing content. I think they get a stiffy anytime towing is brought up haha:annoyed:
