The diagram makes it look like this is used to activate a “smart switch” that’s hard wired to a light or outlet? Is that the case?

When we redid a house for my fiancé’s dad, it was an old 1900 house and has no wall switches since everything was pull cord before switches so we had to wind a wireless switch that would come with a small Bluetooth receiver that could be mounted at the light fixture/ceiling mount.

That is correct, I believe the CE ones are WiFi based. I have the older Zwave plus ones that require a bridge. If I want to make a hardwired non switched fixture smart I would use one of these. I'm sure there is a CE one as well.

Threw together a fire pit with some bricks I got for free. Pavers, mortar, and some other supplies still set me back $60, but that's still better than any other fire pit option.

Correct, this has to be linked to 1 of their smart switches as a slave unit. There are smart bulbs that could probably sync to a wireless switch via Bluetooth...but I haven't gone down that rabbit hole of research simply because I didn't need it.

Nice job! Did you do it yourself? If so, which kit did you use? This is near the top of my to-do list.

We had it done through a vendor that the builder uses as he gave us a smoking deal ($1,000) since he was doing 4 other houses in the neighborhood today its a 2 part epoxy that is about 3/16 thick then the sealer and non-slip additive.....should look awesome when finished weather is cool here today so the drying time is a little slower.

I can wait until my next concrete adventure. Really not looking forward to it… cut sidewalk, curb, foundation, and garage floor. Adding in some provisions for a ADU into the garage but more importantly a concrete patio that will screened in and extended grilling zone.

My issue is the time it takes to do a project is near impossible to complete on time trying to keep the 1& 3 year old out of my way! By the time the 3 year old is 5 she might be able to help, until then it’s just yelling at her for holding the flashlight wrong.

Looks like you need a hammer drill with a chisel bit attachment! That makes quick work of it. I'd say you could borrow mine, but I'm on the other coast... :(

I actually have a couple hammer drills but no chisel bits. Well no hammer drills that are hammer only! :D:eek::p
