Don’t waste the money on kings I’ve had both the icons rode better overall imho. I’d get some oem struts and spacers to get you by during rebuild or ome setup.

Question is did you get either custom tuned by Accutune or the like, cause that makes a huge difference.

It would be an easy decision to keep the icons except they're getting corroded, the paint is chipping off, the springs are getting rusty, the adjustment collars are COMPLETELY frozen to the shock tube.

I've heard the kings get corroded and pitted easily too.

Ive heard good things about Elka paint quality and finish

They will all corrode, doesn’t matter what brand or finish.

Put anti-seize on those collars and spin them up and down several times at installation. If you offroad in dusty areas clean the threads and re-apply anti-seize frequently like routine maintenance. A dollartree wire brush helps to clean the threads. I know most people don't adjust after get height set but this is cheap insurance. Will help prevent them from locking up on you as well as keeping from rounding off the wrench flat slots later.

None that I can see at this time (time will tell)

I like that I still have my hard shell topper on three sides for insulation etc. I can still use my sliding windows for ventilation along with the tent bug screen.

Seems DAC Inc has been around awhile and there are many YouTube vids about them. I found out about it here in one of the threads dealing with short bed camping etc.

I need to get my spare out of the bed (35”) and will be mounted on dual swing out system off my bumper. A lot of people build a sleeping /pull out drawer system for the beds. I am going to purchase a decked system so I can store my tent air mattress sleeping bags etc in one drawer and cook stove etc in the other when camping

the added weight, expense, loss of MPG, top heaviness, storage location etc of an RTT is many of the reasons I don’t want to go that direction. They are cool, but the simplicity of this solution fits thischapter of my life. Just the wife and I andmost of the time just me and my kayak

Nothing exciting, greased all the ujoints (the one closest to the T-case on the front drive shaft is a little bit of a pain) and discovered that my carrier bearing is looking a little sad and worn.

So no. Neither one were custom valved/tuned. That would have definitely helped with ride on the kings. The off the shelf kings with adjusted are built for base weight Tacomas with no consideration to use, the clickers only serve to stiffen them up from stock valving. Next set of shocks you get or next time the ones you have need rebuilt, get them valved by a good shop (Accutune or the like) for the actual weight of your truck and your use. Ie the valving changes for mostly road or rock crawling or desert go fast shit. Makes a difference.

Installed yet another set of retros courtesy of @dpf88101 and added an air coupling in the bumper to fit the 4 hose inflate/ deflate.

Hand wash, she still looks pretty good from a distance lol. Did a clay bar and ceramic seal on the roof in prep for Prinsu install. Starting to get the beginnings of the roof peel so hopefully that’ll stall it for a bit :notsure:

The kings were revalved by a local shop the stock setting was to stiff you’re right it did make a big difference but I still liked the icons better. Makes no difference now I’m back on ome 886s up front for now life got in the way needed some quick cash.

Did the "bed mat mod" and upgraded to a 27F battery.

Changed out the sagging rear suspension. Picked up some used 5100’s and 3rd gen leafs w/3 leaf AAL from @kmorgan3 earlier this summer, been sitting in my garage waiting for a rainy weekend to install. Gained about 2” after install. Pretty good rake going now, but will be putting 6112’s up front soon that will hopefully even it out a bit. 99EC1C8A-CE9E-4C7D-9880-2A4E1CC331F2.jpg
