    Thank you for your timely responses guys, I had to resort to my AAA membership I had conveniently forgot about. Only to realize I left my truck keys at work as I rode with the missus in her car today:annoyed:

    @Abeyancer @0xDEADBEEF @Blue92

    Can I use a 440V 10A panel mount key switch to switch on and off AC voltage from an outlet cord? I'm building a lightbar testing station, and I thought a key master switch would be cool to be a master power on/off switch for the unit.

    The ad doesn't specific AC or DC voltage for the switch so I am unsure. I would be using this DC power supply: 12vDC 30A. It doesn't explicitly state its AC power draw, but using an online calculator it looks like 12vDC at ~30 Amps DC will draw 3 Amps AC @ 120vAC.

    Not tagged, but yes. Can assume a 50% efficiency factor on cheap AC/DC converters and you're still good.

    Cool, thank you! Would the hot or neutral be on the key switch?

    I assume 440v is the standard automation voltage - is that in AC or DC?

    Typically hot is wired into a switch so you shorten the live wire length in case of an issue. Ie: switch on neutral means path downstream of load is looking for ground path other than the neutral (bad)

    440V is commercial 3 phase so idk. Industrial automation? Probably since it would fall into that category
    Being rated at 440V means it could suffer a bare metal contact from an opposing phase and not breakdown

    Edit to that: I see it's rated for 660 so I guess they also assume you could use it between two phases (but I believe that would be unsafe in any scenario I can think of).
